Abstract

Weft insertion device for continuous feed loom comprises weft-delivery and weft receiving carriers. Weft thread is taken from a spool, delivered to the centre of theshed by the delivering carrier, received by the receiving carrier which conveys it through the remainder of the shed. Each carrier is driven by a reciprocating flexible belt. First carrier comprises parallel rigid members having pointed forward ends to facilitate entry into shed. Carrier has pair of weft gripper feet, pivotally mounted and normally held in a gripping position by leaf springs. The feet are caused to open to receive the weft thread as the carrier starts its movement into the shed by an adjustable slide mechanism which displaces a lever on the carrier which counters the leaf springs. The second carrier has a hook and further means for activating the first carrier gripper feet release mechanism. The hook draws the weft thread to the other side of the shed. Second carrier includes further gripping means.
