There's a new Chevy Trax
-
And it looks...pretty good, actually.
https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a41599963/2024-chevy-trax-revealed/
Pretty much the same as the Seeker that was recently launched in China, but with a faux-offroady Activ trim level and downgraded engine (1.2L turbo 3cyl from the Trailblazer instead of a 1.5L turbo 4, boo).
The old Trax was depression in automotive form so this is, visually at least, an enormous improvement. The price is pretty impressive too: $22k base, $25k loaded. The 3cyl engine sounds weak, but from what I've heard it's not so bad in the Trailblazer so it might be fine here.
-
@MrSnrub As cheap as it is, I would have looked at it as a potential wife-mobile, but that engine is lacking.
-
@MrSnrub I feel like someone in the benchmarking group sat in a mercedes once.
-
@MrSnrub It is more palatable than some other recent releases from other manufacturers... (I can't believe I just said that about a Trax)
-
@MrSnrub Uh... chevy, you know you make 4 of the same car right? Below is the 2023-2024 Blazer, Trailblazer, Trax and Equinox and if someone can ascribe the right badge to the right car without cheating in one go, I'd buy them a drink
Christ these make me want to gouge my eyes out with forks. I'm not a "brand" guy but how anyone in the market for a crossover can walk into a GM dealer without vomiting is beyond me.
-
@MrSnrub That looks... large. Larger than the TrailBlazer. Is it in the same size class as the old Trax?
-
@CarsOfFortLangley I like the red one best!
-
@EssExTee Chevy's naming convention is really getting out of hand. You'd think a 'Trailblazer' with a longer name and more cachet would be bigger than a 'Blazer', and now the formerly-smallest 'Trax' is a tweener between the Trailblazer and Equinox. Seems the Autumnal/Vernal cycle is the only thing you can trust to stay constant.
-
@ibRAD The red one with the big grille and squinty LED's for me please!
-
@MrSnrub Hey, it's not shaped like a potato anymore!
@CarsOfFortLangley 'Nox, Blazer, Trailblazer, Trax. 'Nox and Blazer are post-refresh. Calm down, they're just cars with a brand identity.
-
@amoore100 I mean, at least its not more alphanumeric soup?
-
@MrSnrub Someone needs to tell GM marketing that keeping the same name for consistency means that the model line actually has to be consistent. The Trax was effectively replaced by the Trailblazer and this now slots in a size above. Maybe it's a subconscious move to get former Trax customers into something the next price-level up. Either way, interesting that it's built in Korea despite being clearly based on the Chinese Seeker.

-
@KITT222 There's a right way and wrong way of having a visual brand identity though. Like, I see an audi and know it's an audi because they adapt the brand's visual style to the shape of the car and it looks great.
This is 4 fugly penalty boxes with the same shape, face and grille.
-
@EssExTee 4" longer, and 5" shorter heightwise than the current trailblazer. I think with 5ish more cubic feet of cargo volume
-
@MrSnrub I'm extremely confused who this is for honestly. Like... I guess if you want a Trailblazer but don't need/want AWD or the bigger 1.3, and you can't afford the extra few grand for the Equinox?
-
@CarsOfFortLangley said in There's a new Chevy Trax:
I see an audi and know it's an audi
and that's literally all you can tell about it since Audi's entire lineup is scaled up/down versions of the same car
-
@amoore100 New Trax is supposed to be the budget offering, I think, since it's cheaper in every trim level. And it's Korean because of tariffs on Chinese cars.
@CarsOfFortLangley One can make the argument that all Audis have the same shape, face, and grille. In fact I'd say they're more guilty of that than Chevy is...
-
@nth256 sure, but it's just bad practice as far as not confusing your consumer. At Honda an HR-V is always smaller than a CR-V which is always smaller than a Passport which is always smaller than the Pilot. Meanwhile at Chevy...
the Trax!
the Trailblazer!
the Blazer!
everything is everything!
-
@Black-Villain this is the Toyota Corolla Cross competitor where the Trailblazer is the CH-R competitor. The Equinox competes with the RAV4. As usual, clarity comes from Toyota.
-
@CarsOfFortLangley they're all the same picture.
-
@Black-Villain I wonder if the Equinox isn't getting sunset. When I was car shopping last winter there were plenty on lots, meanwhile the Trailblazer was selling as soon as they could get them. The Blazer is the right size to be an intermediate below the Traverse family hauler and there really isn't room for five crossovers in a lineup.
-
@KITT222 weird how the Trailblazer is 4 inches smaller and yet more expensive (with same engine and Korean provenance). Hard to see a case for it with this Trax now existing.
-
@amoore100 Did there need to be a separate CHR and Corolla Cross competitor? Toyota is discontinuing the CHR as it is

I thought equinox was going EV?
