Abstract
Excimer laser sources for Doppler radar applications must be characterized by extremely narrow linewidths, which, in the transform limit, can be achieved only with long optical pulse durations. High-transverse-mode quality is also essential to achieving maximum range and spatial resolution. Heterodyne detection of return signals requires a narrow-linewidth oscillator with additional constraints on pulse duration and timing, frequency stability, and chirp.
