Abstract
Pumping of gas lasers by high-energy ion beams has been studied since 1978.1 Sources of ions used so far in experimental investigations were accelerators of a different type. We present results of our preliminary studies of gas active medium (Ar-N2) pumping by a high-energy deuteron beam generated at Mather-type plasma focus.2 We have studied neutron generation efficiency and simultaneously carried out some experiments on Ar-N2 mixture pumping by deuterons. We have Investigated laser action for the wavelength λ = 357.7 nm. We used some results of computer calculations performed earlier for pumping the mixture by protons.
