Abstract

Several kinds of new optical technology are now being developed for extremely high bit-rate optical transmission systems. The nonlinear optical loop mirror (NOLM) has been used as a very high-speed demultiplexer [l]-[3]. A timing extraction phase lock loop (PLL) using traveling-wave laser-diode amplifier (TW-LDA) [4] and a mode-locked Er-doped fiber ring laser (MLRL) [5] have also been developed.
