Abstract
Dynamic single-mode (DSM) lasers,1 which have a stable single-mode oscillation with a narrow dynamic spectral width, are known to satisfy the requirements of high-capacity long-distance optical communication systems.2 The bundle integrated guide-distributed Bragg reflector (BIG-DBR)- type laser,3,4 one of the promising DSM lasers, shows many advantages over existing DSM lasers. However, there are some problems at the joint portion of the active and passive waveguides such as anomalous growth due to the (111) etched facet, taperlike waveguide coupling, and nonuniform grating formation.
