Out At Sea
04:59
|
|
||
The water stretches all around
Reaching further than I can see
We fix a point on the horizon
That will be our destiny
We journey for riches and glory
In lands far away
And if I should die
Valhalla will welcome me
I know not how far we've come
Nor how far still left to go
After many days and nights
Food and water running low
As Thor bangs his hammer on an anvil
Lightning fills the night sky
A raging storm surrounds us
Oh Odin protect us tonight
The wind and rain give way
The ships are battered but okay
And now we see the land appear
The foreign shores are drawing near
A warning to the people, be ready
For we are here!

To Your Battle Stations
06:04
|
|
||
Standing on the tower, looking across the waves
As the dragon ships appear
Built in lands far to the north and able to cross the seas
And now as daylight fades they head our way
"To Your Battle Stations!" I hear the voice cry out
A call to arms that echoes through the air
In the streets the children cry as their mothers rush them inside
And try to comfort them with their words
It will be all right in the morning
It will be all right when the sun comes up
It will be all right then
The archers take their places and aim out into the night
But the mist that now surrounds us hides their ships from sight
"Arrows Away!" and a rain of steel falls down on the enemy
But mostly misses harmlessly
They've made it to shore and have reached the gate
As the ram hits the door, the city shakes
Bang!
Bang!
Bang!
Bang!
The gate gives way, the city walls are breached
I know they're just men but to me
They seem like demons from a distant land
Whose sole purpose is to seek and destroy
And now they're here, coming to get me
I can't protect myself, let alone my family
It will be all right in the morning
It will be all right when the sun comes up
It will be all right then
(It will never be all right)
It will be all right then
(It will never be all right)

Smiling on the Inside
05:58
|
|
||
The beaten road passes underfoot
The shield weighs heavy on my arm
You get used to the rain
But the wind can cause some harm
It's my first time travelling
I've never been down this road
Already we've travelled many's a mile
But as soldiers must keep marching on
Up ahead the castle walls come into view
Already we can hear the screams
Looking around, the faces of the others hide their fear
But their eyes give them away
We were called to help our neighbours
From the wrath of the enemy
But it seems we're too late
The battle's already over, just the carnage left behind
Inside the walls it's a complete disaster
With corpses all around and the valuables all gone
Widows and children crying, a picture of nightmares
But then I realise
I'm smiling on the inside 'cos I wasn't here at all
I missed the enemy bring that fear inside the wall
I am alive, I would have been destroyed
But I can't celebrate for look at all these people
These people who have died

A Widow's Lament

This is just a small town
Full of simple people
With simple problems
I don’t understand what just happened
My husband stood strong
As he tried to defend us
And now he lies dead
What good was accomplished?
Why did this happen to us?
What did we do to deserve such loss?
Why did this happen to us?
And what should we do now?
And where is our lord?
Up there in his castle
Supposed to protect us
Keep us safe from the world all around us
He's nowhere at all
Disappeared before the fight
Left us all alone
All alone in our plight
Why did this happen to us?
What did we do to deserve such loss?
Why did this happen to us?
And what should we do now?

Looking out from here I wonder what to do
And so I turn to you my good friend
What would you recommend?
But then I realise that you’re no longer here
You went out there to fight with the other men
So you likely died
I’ll wait until it’s dark
And then go walking down the road
Some old boots and tattered rags
To hide my fine silk, jewels and gold
The palace isn’t far, just a few days walk away
And when I step out into court
The king will surely welcome me
Avoiding the faces as they go past on the road
But then a group surrounds me
And without a word knock me out cold
When I come around, I find they’ve stripped me bare
Just these old boots and tattered rags
Are all they spared
And now I’m just a man
Walking up and down the road
These old boots and tattered rags
My sole possessions in the world
And now I see the world from another point of view
When I see the people smilin’
I don’t know what to do

The King's Game

Think of the lovers with their lives between them
Do they need them?
Come in here, sit with me
I'll tell you everything you need to know
Look for the people with their eyes all around them
Can you see them?
Now look again, do you think
They can see anything at all?
Give it time, it's just a game, you'll see
All of the people, all of these people, belong to me
We'll give them rules to play but it's simple
For us, they don't apply
Give it time, it's just a game, you'll see
All of the people, all of these people, belong to me
We'll give them rules to play but it's simple
For us, they don't apply

Come gather round and huddle in tight
Let me tell you a story
About an enemy that’s gone unseen
But been here all our lives
Now you may think that I’m crazy
But don’t just listen to what I say to you
What do you think is the truth?
What are you gonna do
When you find out life’s been taken from you?
Don’t just go to work and sleep and eat
Ask more questions don’t accept defeat
Come gather round and huddle in tight
Let me tell you a story
About an enemy that’s gone unseen
But been here all our lives
Now you may think that I’m crazy
But don’t just listen to what I say to you
What do you think is the truth?
What are you gonna do
When you find out life’s been taken from you?
Don’t just go to work and sleep and eat
Ask more questions don’t accept defeat

A Fairytale Ending
04:07
|
|

Your ships arrived, all those moons ago
Hostile enemies, demonic beasts, wild animals untamed
But then under your spell I became hypnotised
Warnings and disapproval unheeded as we found ourselves entwined
Goodbye, oh goodbye
How can it be time already for you to go?
Goodbye, oh goodbye
Please don’t leave me here, ignore your orders and stay behind
How long has it been, our love growing each day
Secret meetings, chance encounters, wild passions untamed
But now you say you have to go, will you just leave me behind
A pariah alone left to mourn a vacant heart evermore
Goodbye, oh goodbye
You tell me deserters to the cause will be put to the sword
Goodbye, oh goodbye
But now you’re asking me to join and sail away with you
Goodbye, oh goodbye
We sail tomorrow on the evening tide, I must prepare
Goodbye, oh goodbye
Farewell to my home and to my past, my journey begins
My love, I am here

Not a Fairytale Ending
03:21
|
|

Hello my love, it seems like such a long time
Since I made these shores
That epic journey from distinct lands
Through wild storms
And now that you're here, have you changed your mind?
Not long now, ready or not
Your new world awaits, this is our way out
Set sail and plot our course into the night sky
As you watch it unfold, focus on your hopes and desires
And behold, the new illumination that you could only dream about
Did you really think this would be a fairytale?
Too late now, like it or not
Your new world awaits, and there’s no way out
Not as my wife but instead you shall be my slave
As you watch it unfold, forget about your hopes and desires
And do as your told, for the rest of your days now belong to me
