Yesterday, U.S equities ended mixed with Powell’s dovish remarks hinting rate cut prospects which reassured the market though the timing is uncertain and data dependent. Breadth was negative and the S&P 500 traded within a narrow range led by Financials and Consumer Discretionary. The NYSE FANG+ and Semi indices reached 52wk highs as the AI narrative carries on. Today, the weekly MBA mortgage data continued under pressure and crude and gasoline inventories fell. After rallying yesterday, U.S financials are mostly up. Fed Chair Powell’s prepared remarks to the U.S. House Financial Services Committee were the same as yesterday’s, so far the Q&A has the same messaging. Heading into U.S CPI tomorrow, futures test 71% chance of a 25bps cut at the September FOMC meeting up from 68% a week ago. Nvidia and semis surging. The S&P 500 is surging above 5600 for the first time, about 47% of its names are trading above their 50d ma.
