In this paper, a model for aerodynamic behaviour of particulates (pollutants) that diffuses into ... more In this paper, a model for aerodynamic behaviour of particulates (pollutants) that diffuses into the airway in the human lower respiratory track (LRT) containing mixture of pollutants, water droplets and mucus is considered. The velocity of the airflow is computed using the Nervier Stokes equation with fractal morphologic boundaries and the population of bacteria in the mixture studied using the Lauffeger-Aris-Keller model. The series solutions to the models are obtained using eigenvalue and eigenfunction techniques. The concentration of the pollutants in the LRT and the airflow velocity profile are obtained. It is found that as the thickness of the irreversible structures formed on the walls of LRT increases then the airflow into the airway decreases. The population of bacteria is found to be stable if the if sustenance function is very small compared to the death rate of the bacteria. Therefore, for good throughput of airflow, the muscles of the walls of breathing ducts need to be dilated with drugs or through surgery by constructing Nano pipes to allow passages of air into the air sacs by bypassing the pulmonary obstacles to enhance free flow of air into the lungs. discontinuous and are not inte... more The solutions of impulsive differential equations (IDEs) are often
discontinuous and are not integrable in the ordinary sense of the word as
most hypotheses in differential equations normally assumed.This peculiarity
makes (IDEs) not easily accessible to most existing concepts and theorems in
the Differential Equations. Therefore the existing concepts, theories in
Differential equations need to be strengthened or new ones developed
before applying to (IDEs).This book will be useful to practitioners in the
field and in the industry working on problems with impulsive attributes
such as modeling/computer simulation of stock price and petroleum
pricing, disaster management,harvesting problem, biomedical problems
and so on. We must note that, no attempt has been made to cover all
accepts on modeling of impulsive differential equations,but we utilized
several interesting techniques in nonlinear analysis such as topological
degree, compact operators, monotone-iterative technique, measure of
non-compact maps, inequalities on cone and applied them to some
practical problems including, Numerical approximation of solutions of
impulsive differential equations and measure differential equation

Theoretical Physics ... more This volume contains papers presented at the First International Seminar on
Theoretical Physics and National Development (ISOTPAND08) held at the Merit
House (Abuja, Nigeria) from August 25- 29, 2008. This first meeting was to pay
tribute to Emeritus Professor Alexander Obiefoka Enukora Animalu who joined
the prestigious ‘Age Club’ of three scores and ten on August 28, 2008, The event
recorded a huge success because it was seen by all as an opportunity to give
honour to who it was due.
The opening ceremony on August 26 was under the chairmanship of the
President of the Nigerian Academy of Science (represented by Professor Ephraim
Okon, FAS). The highlights included an overview by Professor Animalu of a
compendium of research output in physics in the past four decades (1965-2005)
from 36 Nigerian Universities founded before 1999 and the presentation of a
biography of Professor Animalu written by G.E. Akpojotor and J. Unaegbu. This
was followed by the technical sessions which were richly informative and
motivational as they were a combination of both pedagogical and advanced
contents to cut across all the participants made up of senior and junior researchers,
postdocs, graduate and undergraduate students. The closing ceremony was the
birthday dinner on August 28, where encomiums rolled out from various groups
including the foreign distinguished researchers who had read and were inspired in
their graduate studies by both the English and Russian versions of Professor
Animalu’s 1977 Prentice-Hall-published book ‘Intermediate Quantum Theory of
Crystalline Solids.’ Indeed it was a great moment for Nigeria science in particular
and scholarship in general.
The success of ISOTPAND08 motivated both the organizers (scientific
committee) and the participants to reach the decision that ISOTPAND should
become an annual event and should remain a forum for bringing senior
researchers and eager beginners together. It was also decided that the proceedings
of each event should be published after the papers contributed by participants
have been peer-reviewed. It is hoped therefore that this first volume will be very
useful to the scientific community.

The 21st Century was ushered in with several challenging problems amongst is the medical
problems like HIV/AIDs, Bird flu and Swine flu and Sars. There are other environmental and
financial problems which are everywhere present and there is indeed the need for world
scientists, engineers and educators to develop capacity to tackle these global problems.
The proceedings for the International Conference on Mathematical Modelling of some Global
Challenging Problems in the 21st Century is the showcase of novel report of findings of some
Scientists, engineers and educators who have love and passion for solving humanity problems
Through modelling and simulation were assembled together at the conference.
The outcome of research findings of the Presenters after a peer review process are published in
this Volume.
The participants in the conference advocated that this conference should made to be an annual
Event with possibility of forming the Society for Mathematical Modelling and Simulation
Future. It also suggested that some of the findings and recommendation should be adopted by
National Planners and Policy Makers in their nations.
Finally, before I end this preface I wish to acknowledge the support and encouragement the
National Mathematical Centre, Abuja, Nigeria received from the COMSATS National
Secretariat and our dear member states of COMSATS for the mandate given us to develop
capacity on mathematical modelling for the sub-region of Africa. We shall keep on carry on the
mandate to ensure that everybody is mathematical modelling literate in the sub-region and to

In this paper, Carbon dioxide emission from the liquid fuel supplied in Nigeria by the Nigerian N... more In this paper, Carbon dioxide emission from the liquid fuel supplied in Nigeria by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) from 2009 to 2013 is analysed. The CO2 emissions and CO2 emission per capita within the given period are computed and projected emission from 2013 to 2025 made using the greenhouse training equation, artificial neural network (ANN) model and polynomial interpolation method and nonlinear fitting method. The available data from the Nigerian National Petroleum Cooperation (NNPC) is extrapolate from 2013 to 2020 using the polynomial interpolation method and the nonlinear fitting method is utilised to fit the data from 2009 to 2030. It is found that CO2 emission and CO2 emission per capita into the air for Nigeria decreased from 2009 to 2011 but, however, increasing continuously from 2012 to 2025. Covid-19 has infringed socio-economic problems on many nations. This article is on the global ove... more Covid-19 has infringed socio-economic problems on many nations. This article is on the global overview of the disease and modeling procedures to contain the disease. We think of how to exploit mathematical modeling and simulation techniques to study the parthenogenesis, epidemiological characteristics of the disease, and its demographic impact on countries. Moreover, make use of Machine learning interpretable algorithms to analyze covid-19 data and measure the daily basic reproduction numbers of the countries. It is suggestive to study the dynamics of Covid-19 from a sub-molecular level, to understand biotransformation of coronavirus to other variant forms, and to measure drugs and vaccines efficacies. The strategy of the study is to explore new knowledge and simulation tools to understand the dynamics and containment of the disease. The first major challenge is how to boost the economy of nations by providing gainful employment to a large number of people. The second challenge being how to provide effective drugs and vaccines to contain the virus and its variant forms. The third is on how to measure the risk associated with the pandemic and measure the effectiveness of containment strategies.

In this paper, a study is carried out to understand the biological and chemical changes down the ... more In this paper, a study is carried out to understand the biological and chemical changes down the ocean depth by considering a coupled nonlinear ecosystem (biodiversity) model containing a pollution function. Our research interest is to gain insight into temporal-spatial dynamics of phytoplankton, zooplanktons, fishes and birds in the ocean polluted by chemical substances. We determine the equilibrium points and the analytic solution to the model using Fourier transform method and numerical simulations for the model are carried out under certain conditions. The population of the species is found to be cyclic, oscillatory and show persistence, coexistence and chemotaxis phenomena at some periods during the simulation. The population of the species is global sector stable and the population ratio of the species varies on a spatial scale of 10 meters from the surface of the ocean to the bottom. From simulation results on species population ratio, the species tend to flourish in patches that provide nutrients, abundant oxygen and comfort from pollution effects.
