Hello everyone. In anime from the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s, there were exaggerated reaction scenes where characters would humorously fall to the ground when someone said something nonsensical or when something unusual happened. Sometimes, their eyes would even pop out of their sockets in an exaggerated way. However, these kinds of reactions seem to have disappeared in modern anime. Why is that in your opinion? What caused this change in animation style? I don't know if I was clear enough lol. Sorrt for my bad English.

Things change. I guess that type of humor simply isn't that funny nowadays.

And it's not only about anime. Comedy as a whole has changed a lot during the decades.

It really didn't. It really didn't. (minimum length of posts sucks, lol)
Everything changes. Even the happy and funny things eventually disappear. How can I still enjoy this place then?

You have to make a choice. Either you give up on your soul for the sake of science, or you give up on science to save your soul. In my case, the soul was already in pieces.

Do you understand the meaning behind Nunnaly's smile? She can't see or walk. So there are things in this world that she knows she can't do alone. Her smile... is her only way to show gratitude.

Those reactions got so overstaurated in anime that they become old and tropy and were gradually abandon for more normal reactions.

Falling to the ground or having your eyes pop out of their sockets is not only painful but can also cause permanent health issues. Same as losing gallons of blood from the nose, being punched into space by another character, having a washtub fall on your head etc. They went the way of the Wile E. Coyote jaw drop in the early 00s when the Anime Character Association threatened to strike for more humane working conditions.
Fact. Look it up.

Perhaps because they were too cartoony.

May be exaggerated reaction gags in anime have taken a backseat because modern anime creators probably realized that the "Big Eyes, Bigger sweat drop" routine was starting to feel as fresh as last week's shounen jump. 😅

With American audiences craving more character realism to Japanese people, those over-the-top reactions have become the equivalent of using dial-up internet in the age of 5G.

But worry not, may be the giant sweat drops and bread toast in mouth gags may have taken a sabbatical, we've gained more dominant waifu characters who sarcastically belittle you and delightfully bully you like nagatoro .

Yeah, I noticed such thing in older manga and anime.

A character in retro comedy when they haven't been falling to the ground for ten seconds:

Wild takes in general have gone out of style in animation in general. I guess it's just people got bored with them. I certainly remember them. After all, I also grew up watching EVERY Warner Bros. Cartoon ever made as a little kid. That humor was a staple in animation.

A lot of anime stems from ln series where that stuff would not take place. That type of stuff is more so relegated to gag/comedy manga based anime like Puniru.
