Probably. It's usually the same thing with yaoi when you are a man.

Do you assume that most guys like yuri?

I'm a male and generally not a big fan of either (yuri or yaoi).

Either are okay. I could watch either, ideally if they're combined with other genres I'm more interested in like thriller, horror, or Sci-Fi, or have otherwise appealing elements to them such as aspects of the plot and characters to make a watch worthwhile, but they're never genres I seek out. The same as something like Mecha or Idol-themed Music.

@WatchTillTandava No, I don't assume that. I didn't even say that. Maybe most guys don't mind yuri. I also don't like yuri despite being a guy

Probably not, many girls like this kind of romance involving obstacles.

I like Yuri because I'm attracted to women, I can invest myself in that romance. I don't dislike yaoi but it just doesn't do anything for me for the alternate reason. I would imagine its not crazy different for women, but I'd like to hear from the straight (or not) girls.

I'm a girl and I don't like yuri (and also yaoi), my friends and cousin who are fellow girls aren't into it either.

So probably yes from what I've seen so far, although I've seen some other girls in MAL were into yuri

Yuri has a sizable female audience, and I'm a girl that likes Yuri.

As a girl who likes yuri, not at all. This has been a persistent misunderstanding for many years. Rather than most female audience dislike yuri, I think it's more accurate to say majority of anime fans are not fond of yuri works. And yuri doesn't get much attention as het or BL does.

If you consider works that are called "light yuri" (with yuri element), then there is a possibility that there are more male audience. But if you consider works with more canonical romantic relationship, there would be equal proportion of male and female audience, or even more female audience. Majority of yuri creators are also female.

I suggest reading some research on demographics of yuri fans, like this one below:
https://floatingintobliss.wordpress.com/2017/11/27/yuri-isnt-made-for-men-an-analysis-of-the-demographics-of-yuri-mangaka-and-fans/

Also the "Analysis" part in wiki page of "Yuri":

I doubt it, females seem to be more open-minded about homosexuality, overall at least.

this is like the 3rd time I see the same question this month and the answer is "it depends"

I know a lot of woman that like yuri because they are attracted to woman themselves, like queer represantation or are queer.

The only complaits I heard, are about anime like "Citrus" were the relanshionship is clearly shown from more "male gaze"/"fetishy" perspective.

As a woman I don't mind yuri, I don't seek it out, cause I'm attracted to man, so stories focused on lesbian love aren't my priority, still I liked the ones I watched [Yagate Kimi ni Naru, Aoi Hana, Mahou Shoujo ni Akogarete and Utena] and I wouldn't mind seek out more if anything interesting comes out.

I did my own research by analyzing the MAL manga db:

@Zarutaku Isn't most of yuri readers women rather than males? Though it may be that women who are interested in shojo and women who are interested in yuri rarely overlap.

Going by the yuri manga (because there are many more than anime) the demographic distribution is as follows:

282 total yuri manga with a demographic tag

40 Shoujo (~14%)
50 Shounen (~18%)
53 Josei (~19%)
139 Seinen (~49%)

93 female target audience (~33%)
189 male target audience (~67%)

90 teen target audience (~32%)
192 adult target audience (~68%)

Conclusion: most yuri entertainment is made for adult himedanshi.

@Zarutaku where can I see the MAL manga db showcasing the female and male target audience? I'm curious and want to check it out.

@Jentheworld Not sure what you mean, you can find them by using an advanced search for each of the demographics, the link below lists the seinen ones.

@Zarutaku Thanks for the link. I mean how do you check the percentage of female and male target audience?
@Jentheworld I counted the entries by using browser search and then calculated the percentage.
