NiziU on the OP??!! Oh we’re eating good. The visual are horrendous but my babies singing makes up for it. I really miss the old art style though 😭 it had such a unique flavour to it. This new art style feels more like a mix of western art and webtoon art

Nice first episode back that introduces us to Ja Wangnan, he’s such a funny dude and brings a lot of upbeat energy to the story. I can’t wait to learn more about him. The dudes pulling up on buddy in the bathtub to collect the money he owed them had me dying 😂. He really felt like the MC in this one.

Ja and Bam got a cool edgy friend/happy upbeat friend dynamic going on. After what happened at the end of s1 I don’t blame Bam at all for being an edgelord, I’m looking forward to learning more about FUG and what he’s been up to since he met Hwaryun etc etc.

Fight animation was crazy. If the art style change came at the expense of better animation it’s a worthy sacrifice.

ED is another NiziU banger!! The visuals still not doing much for me but it is what it is

I feel super lost. I really liked the first season, but I'm halfway through the first episode and have absolutely no clue why I'm supposed to care about any of these characters or what is going on. I barely even remember what happened in the first season beyond him and her and the betrayal. Is there a good Youtube summary anywhere that can tie into this? Because right now I feel like tossing this to the side.

I barely even remember what happened in the first season beyond him and her and the betrayal. Is there a good Youtube summary anywhere that can tie into this? Because right now I feel like tossing this to the side.

Question:
@Prox1mately Rachel threw Bam off and wanting to kill him due to Headon/Yu Hansung stating that Rachel had to get rid of Baam to be able to go to the top of the tower, and ultimately she wanted to be a star and was jealous of Bam being the star so she wanted to take his role and committed to throwing him off. Baam survived with Hwaryun the red hair chick and she offered to help him reach the top of the tower with him joining her after he was betrayed. At the minimum, he wants answers from Rachel for why she did what she did, and that involves him having to climb the tower. He's got friends there too that he wants to catch up to as well additionally primarily and doesn't exactly love the tower since it forced Rachel to act like this and betray him in the process. That's the extent I can say about that part without spoiling further info.

TImeskip is 6 years later and Rachel is travelling with Khun Aguero and the rest that passed the second floor at the end of season 1 and advancing up the tower so that is why there is a focus on other characters this time around that are on their own journeys to advance the tower for the time being with Jyu Viole Grace and Ja Wangnan being the main characters in this part of the journey. More info (some very obvious compared to others) will be revealed but did as much as I can without spoiling.

I gave last season a 9 but this season has abandoned the unique art style. Instead it’s probably cutting corners for easier more generic drawing/animation. Plus the backgrounds are drastically less stylised. It’s just a shame that the art gets worse when the story gets better.

@Sigmar-Unberogen Maybe some minor comedy but not much skipped. To be fair, think the pacing will be better this season even if not perfect still.

S1 had roughly close to 80 chapters to adapt in 13 ep. Around 6 chapters per episode.

S2 (at least the portion that's being adapted I think of it) has 110 chapters I think to adapt in 2 cours, which is around 22-26ish. That's 4-5 roughly. It's a bit better. Plus there's a lot more action this season too to speed things up a bit with the anime too.

The episode was honestly fine I feel like season 1 had a stronger episode 1. I still feel the same way about the animation though its just okay looking. Still going to continue to the end regardless of quality. Maybe I'll pick up the webtoon again I stopped a little bit after the train arc.

Not enough info just yet on how this season is going to turn out. But from this episode I can tell that the fight scenes are in good hand. The dialogue scenes however sometimes seem a bit too choppy. I prefer the season 1 animation style but this style is pretty good too. I thought s1's animation was not the greatest when I watched the show weekly but later loved it so it's just a case of getting use to.

I don't know if this was just me, but this episode was not what I was hoping for. I originally had only seen the first season and was really impressed. The production quality was very high from the art style to the sound track, and the direction of the first season I thought really brought it all together. Obviously for this season the studio and some of the cast has changed which can't really be accounted for, but still I feel like this episode missed the mark.

I would say my main issue is probably the direction of the episode as a whole. It is extremely fast paced, cutting from scene to scene with very little down time. This can also be heard with the sound track. Tracks will switch so often it's hard to understand the tone of a given scene. I really wish that the episode gave each scene a bit more time to breath, to add a bit more to each scene. I'm not talking about adding dialogue that isn't in the webtoon, but I wish there was more establishing shots, and that we got mroe time to know each character before they're used to push the plot forward.

After watching the episode I went back to read the chapters that episode 1 covers. Overall this episode very faithfully adapts the first 5 chapters of TOG season 2. However even after reading the webtoon my issues remain. I was very suprised to learn that TOG season 1 covered 78 chapters of the webtoon in 13 episodes as it never felt rushed, and everything flowed very well. As for this episode, it felt like it was trying to sprint through each scene, and characters were just trying to push the story forward.

Will we get to see anything that has happened before Bam became this kinda edgy revenge seeker or are we just supposed to know everything? Also, this "new mc" is damn annoying and I don't think I will care about any of these characters we haven't seen before.

As for animation, to me it feels like it's gonna have the same problem as most of the new anime these past years which is running out of budget or whatever mid-season and that is usually around eps 5-6 and that's a shame if it will happen since S1 didn't seem to have that problem.

Man, I barely remember anything from the first season. Maybe I should watch a S1 summary on YT or something...
I remember Rachel betraying Bam the ultimate simp tho. Probably the only scene I genuinely enjoyed from such generic show.

I am a bit upset with how many spoilers and reveals they did because it completely removed all the mystery and just basically said this is bam but that's because the ending of season 1 was change so and they are a new studio so you really can't blame them other than that I loved this episode

@Gen_616 To be fair, they did show Rachel and Baam in the webtoon as well after he got on the elevator. Doing an actual mystery with a main character's identity is useless to us viewers but its meant to be a mystery to the others in the actual series. People who are interacting with him right now from this ep and who is he exactly, people who went up the tower and wondering what on earth happened to him. You can visually see him having a similar design besides just longer hair so the webtoon wasnt trying to be overly subtle either. In a visual medium, unless they absolutely change everything about him besides the hair or if he just wore the mask of someone else the entire time, then its tough to pull that off. It has been 6 years but its not like he was old enough to magically grow a large beard either.

@MegamiRem I might be in the extreme minority but I always pronounced it as FUG together than separately when reading it so it felt more normal to me. It rolled off the tongue a lot smoother and natural that way for me. Kind of like how NASA is said as NASA and not just N, A, S, A separately.

episode was fire, it was dope how you’re basically just left to realize that the person you’re watching is bam (obviously up until he has a flashback). new characters seem cool and animation seems on point… for now. yeah as others are saying s1 artstyle was more unique but i still think this is fine. the music is still top tier too.

I'm glad I read the manhwa before this comes because it's definitely an experience here and there. Season 2 to me is the best part of TOG period. It made me appreciate the existing characters more and intrigued by how they develop. I like the OP and ED but the visual for the ED....whatever. The new art-style is something to get used to but the action in this EP were superb. Still starting to build up to where it goes but yeah, excited.

It’s better than the first episode of season 1. This episode felt like it had very little cut if anything. I think people are getting too used to JJK and Demon Slayer levels of animation. The animation was pretty good.

The art style while very different, is closer to the webtoon than season 1 was. I just hope they give the two arcs the episodes they need. I’d give the episode an 8/10.

Tower of God, my favorite manhwa, is finally back with another season!!!! I'm pretty neutral when it comes to the art style change, although the art and directing seemed a bit awkward at times. Fighting animation and pacing were decent, at least, hopefully they could keep this up for the rest of the season. Super hyped to see Wangnan and Viole making their anime debut. Viole's clothes look awesome and Wagnan is such a goofy character lol. Very excited to see more of the new characters.

The OP and ED visuals are interesting. The OP has a lot of foreshadowing and easter eggs, while for the ED, it looks like they'll add more visuals as the episodes continue.

I think some people forgot how Season 1 was animated (not talking about art style) if they think Season 2's animation is worse.
Or they didn't watch the episode? I seriously don't know.
Anyway I think the ED song is actually fire and it will also look amazing when full of all the panels from all the episodes.
OP is alright, idk how some people can call it the worst ever, it's NOT even close that bad.
Anyway yeah some very strange comments for this ep, feels like some people just trusted the skull emojis posting teen leakers in thinking it would be bad and can't think for themselves, even when the leakers themselves backpedalled on it.

Exactly my thoughts. Nothing was explained/hinted about any time skip or whatever, shit just happens, Bam now seems like an edgy bad guy, we get introduced to new characters and we are supposed to know tf is going or like what? If this won't be explained later on, it's gonna be shame honestly.

I mean, it wasn't bad, but I didn't feel the magical atmosphere of the first season, new blonde character doesn't seem that compelling, but the misterious guy is kinda cool. Much like season 1 the setting is interesting but the characters are bad. Even as an anime only I don't think it's that confusing, but the only person less interesting to follow than our oh so special main turned special edgy guy is a deluded chatter mouth. But still I want to know more about the world, and the fights aren't bad.
