Not the ending I was expecting, but still a fairly pleasant little read one of Clamp's better shorter series for sure.

Well then, it's gotta be one of the worst series I've read this year.

Not that it's... bad per se, like in a harmful way, but it's sooooo childish, cutesy and innocent I think I'm gonna puke ;_; Some series I've read, that were targeted specifically on children, had more mature storylines and way more interesting twists/endings. This was unnecessarily long anyway, 4 volumes, seriously? This SUPER COMPLEX story could fit into one short volume without any problem, probably would make this easier to digest this shit.

And now, ending after this few volumes is like: oh noe, MC is dead :( But wait, adorable chibi angel will be able to go sleep through a time skip, and they'll meet again, yay :)

Well then. WHY EVEN KILL HIM OFF IN THE FIRST PLACE. And make such a huge deal out of it since the beginning. Especially when Kohaku's "relationship" with Shuuichirou's reincarnation in the epilogue feels so damn forced, sudden and out of fucking nowhere. Ugh!

But yeah, for 5-years old interested in manga, that should be a perfect choice I guess, lol.

You know, this was the very first manga I ever bought when I was just 12 years old, and back then I really loved this manga.

Even though I felt nostalgic reading this series again after maybe a decade, this time around I felt the story came empty-handed.

First of all, Clamp never really went into detail why Shuichiro had this fixation with Hotaru. Shuichiro was just “found” as a baby, with no explanation on how or why he was found. The fact he was so distraught that his father got together with Hotaru before Shuichiro did, is honestly kind of creepy. His parent’s relationship makes no sense either. Why was Shuichiro so fond of Hotaru? I’m going assume this complex he had with her somewhat determines why he was fond of Kohaku. Or, was Kohaku just a rebound from having unresolved emotions for Hotaru?

I expected the ending to lean towards an idea where Shuichiro had some sort of heavenly or demon powers like Kokuyo predicted in the manga. Perhaps this was the idea Clamp insinuated but didn’t have enough time or room to make it part of the plot.

I don’t dislike the ending, but the build up to the ending felt like filler with unexplained situations. This is not the worst manga Clamp ever made, but I rate it 6/10.

Also, can we acknowledge the cats were annoying as fuck in the entire manga? It killed the vibe half the time and they were completely over the top.

I went to read Vol. 7 of Clamp No Kiseki where Clamp had their interview regarding Wish; after the project was finished, all of the artists felt that the story should’ve gone differently. The subplot was not needed in Wish to begin with, according to Ohkawa. She also stated that if they were offered to do a “remake” of Wish, they would. They wanted to keep the story lighthearted and dragged out much longer. They did not intend on adding serious tones too quickly into the story. (In all honesty, the story got better with the serious tonalities).

So with that said, I think it’s safe to say the ideas Clamp had were not properly executed well in Wish.

I LOVED this series so much but I’m not so happy about the ending. I’m still giving it a high rating though because I fell in love with the characters and I’m so sad it’s Over.
I just think the ending was kinda weird…he just died? Was he sick? I thought he was going to be an Angel or some sort of magical creature especially since he was adopted and came out of nowhere. I just thought that was going to be important. I’m so happy Kohaku got to be happy in the end because I loved her so much but they didn’t even have time to fall in love. New shuichirou didn’t seem so interested in kohaku and then all of a sudden changes his mind.
I honestly adored the series up until the ending but what can you do.
Also the art was just so gorgeous!
