Synopsis

Though he grew up as an orphan, Nio Chirinu finds a place to belong: being a waiter at his adoptive grandmother's restaurant. But this peace does not last long; Nio and his sister Iroha are used as bait to arrest child abductors by Toshizou Hijikata and Souji Okita—two members of an infamous ronin group called Miburo. After the ordeal, Toshizou proposes that Nio join the ranks of Miburo and protect the people of Kyoto.

Frustrated by his own weakness, Nio trains to match the swordsmanship of his new comrades. Even so, he struggles to be accepted by Tarou Tanaka and Hajime Saitou, the other Miburo members of his age. Determined to befriend them, Nio must discover his own sense of justice and become strong enough to prevail against all his enemies.

Preliminary (14/24 eps)
I usually don’t write recommendations but this time I felt I needed to fix a wrong from what I saw this series has gotten an unfair judgment, as most viewers expected a Naruto-style anime, with tons of fights. However, this is a historical anime that might be better placed in the “slice-of-life” category with some action on the side - the action you do get is quite interesting. This series is more character-driven, and it has a philosophical approach to many Japanese ideas, which for me, as a foreigner is quite refreshing. The animation is good, the characters are diverse, funny, and sometimes quite profound. ...

Mixed Feelings
Preliminary (10/24 eps)
I'll be honest: At first, I thought Ao no Miburo would contain some great fights in samurai period, something that i really enjoy watching at times. However, I got a bit disappointed. Why? Because this show is literally 90% monologues or conversations and 10% fighting. Or to say it more correctly, it starts with fight and I'm like "Ohhh that's cool! What'll happrn next?" . And then...blah blah blah for the biggest part of the episode.

Why? Just...WHY? And when I decide to skip it because I'm bored...BOOM! A fight out of nowhere! And I'm like:"Well, I'll give it one more chance". Honestly, I don't ...

Preliminary (14/24 eps)
I find it hard, almost impossible, to believe that this is a "historical" samurai anime, as it's living in some fairy world where being the MC and saying some clique emotional lip-service at any time can make a man abandon his desire to kill. Do they really expect us to believe that historical samurai japan was all sunshine and rainbows, with everyone diplomatically talking to each other?

If you want a historical samurai show, watch Ruroni Kenshin/Elusive Samurai, which create fictional worlds based on history without spitting in the face of the actual events that happened. Only pick this up if you wanna watch with ...
