Egon Schiele - part 1
Egon Schiele (1890-1918). Born in Tulln on the Danube, Schiele became one of the major figurative painters of the early 20th century. Twisted body shapes and expressive line mark him as an early proponent of Expressionism. He rejected traditional academic discipline, impressed instead by Klimt and the Vienna Secessionists who spoke about a reconcilliation of art and life. Founded "Neukunstgruppe" and developed a drawing style that conjured fragility and tension. Died of pandemic influenza.
