Harris' Story

Harris Chowdhary interned in Santiago de Compostela, Spain at Fundacion Ria and helped the organization develop a set of programs for the fall which would continue their Territorial agenda for Galicia, a multi-year project commissioned by the Galician state government and the EU to develop a set of spatial masterplanning instruments for the territory with an eye to sustainability and existing development goals.

"I was able to communicate effectively between local stakeholder concerns and broader initiatives of sustainability and regional development brought in by the EU and donor interests, in large part because of the diverse international experiences I've had as an MIT student that sharpened my sensibility for stakeholder interests."

  • Harris in the field
"My favorite part was working with mountain communities in Galicia on the inauguration of a center for transformation, a space in which community members could cook, process, and sell locally grown produce, meat, and other natural products to encourage community development. The cooperatively owned project offered a really inspiring model for business management."
