mari.somnol.net current status!

nofi is content complete! Everything that will be on this domain in the next few months is visible there, so go peruse for a taste of the future. I still need to do a bunch of illustrations for it, but I haven't been feeling like drawing a lot lately. Even without them, though, I am unendingly pleased with what I've built. There's also been a nice, steady stream of album reviews coming out—and RSS feeds for them, the game reviews when I get back to doing those, and the site itself if you'd like your reader to keep up for you. (nofi, lofi, and hifi will all have their own RSS feeds, same content, but linking to the three different sites. This way, however old the machine you're using is, you can keep up with what I'm up to and visit using a site that your machine can actually view correctly.)

lofi is now currently in development. Since all the content has been assembled and finalized, since it's already an AutoSite project, and since it uses the layout and markup of this page (though much much upgraded, with Mac OS desktop-style navigation and actual widgets on the fake windows!), it's gonna be a really quick port. The hardest part is rewriting all the presentational <font> mess that nofi uses into orderly classes for each page. It'll still be done by the end of this week though, or next week at the latest. Then I just have to think of what I want hifi to look like, which will reside in this space right here.

I'm gonna grind hard on website stuff until the end of the year (after this, I'm finally doing that damn archives redesign), and then spend 2025 actually writing stories and working on things to go on these new sites. It felt weird writing stories and making music only to realize they didn't have a home to be posted to when they're done. Sure, I have a Bandcamp, sure, I could make a Wattpad—but they're not my site. They're just a place to post my stuff. This is my home right here. (Plus, my unending need to have other people tell me how cool my stuff is has pretty well dried up over the course of this year, so I'm happy just having my little independent site I'm proud of and calling it there.)

mariteaux.somnolescent.net is under development!

I've grown pretty dissatisfied with my Internet presence. My sites are old, my profiles all need to be redone, and I just feel I'm different from the way I used to present myself when I last updated them in 2021 or so, let alone when they were first made in 2018.

Worse yet, back in 2021 or so, I split all the things I do (stories, art, modding, music) across two different sites, which was a mess—and I stopped feeling like either site did me justice. I've been redirecting this domain to a patched up version of mari_v3 with everything added back to it for the past few months, but again, old! 2020! I still had to use Caby's art for everything!

That's why I'm redoing mari.somnol. I want my art all over it, I want to update it to what I've been up to in the past few years (a lot), and I want to make it feel like it represents me again. In typical mariteaux fashion, I've gotten a lot more ambitious since I first decided to do this.

Here's what you can expect from mari_v4:

Content

Visuals

  • A much more accurate Mac OS 8-style layout featuring a breadcrumb trail in the menu bar (like mari_v2 but better)
  • Fully illustrated pages, like what I've been doing for cammy.somnol
  • Full mobile and old browser compatibility
  • A layout selector that lets you view mari.somnol with any mari site layout you feel is fuzziest, from my earliest Neocities sites to weird meme layouts from years past
    • How do I plan to do these both? Magic! (JavaScript.)

Where you can go in the meantime

Obviously, there isn't a whole lot here right now, but here's where you can go for your mariteaux needs while I get everything set up:

  • cammy.somnol: My pretty regularly updated personal site. This one's more focused on my fuzzy memories and weird obsessions than the straight portfolio thing of this site, but that's why I love it.
  • mari@macintosh.garden: A prototype for mari_v4! This was built from the ground up with all the content ideas I've been having: my new reviews, you can see my art gallery, the Rediscoverings, and so on. The layout is pretty basic for prototyping reasons; mari_v4 will look more like the page you're reading this on, but the content will be pretty much exactly the same.
  • mari_v3 on archives: My old site layout, as said, patched to include everything it used to when I initially designed it back in 2020. Things are very much aged here, but it all still works and it's all still decently representative of what I like, even if not in the way I prefer it to.

And, if you wanna get in touch, you can find me on Discord at mariteaux (my public account, occasionally checked) and over email at mariteaux@somnolescent.net (constantly checked). None of this will be done any time soon, but I'm hoping to have it in motion this year at the least.
