Import of J9U IDs - solving problems

edit
English: Hi! Thanks again for your import of J9U ID (P8189) IDs to Wikidata! However, I have just noticed that there are 175 cases in which two items, one (or both) being a human, share the same ID; these errors seem, in nearly all cases, due to the import. There are different types of cases, here some (please check 0247 tag in J9U):

I am removing J9U IDs from not-pertinent items, but I need that wrong links from J9U to Wikidata are removed too; otherwise, future imports from J9U to Wikidata will make my work useless; so, I would ask you, when I have completely emptied the page, to check all the 175 J9U IDs one by one, in order to align them to Wikidata. I will inform you when I have finished the check. Thanks in advance! --Epìdosis 13:05, 4 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Epìdosis, thank you very much for this comment. How I can have the full list of all the duplicate to work on them manually? if i understand correctly, all of them should be fixed also in the NLI database. Geagea (talk) 13:20, 4 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
Probably most of them need an adjustment in J9U, I'm not sure all of them; you can copy them from the two tables here. I suggest you to intervene in J9U after I have cleaned everything in Wikidata, so that you can rely on my edits instead of doing the same work that I'm doing, losing more time ;-) --Epìdosis 13:25, 4 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
OK, this Sunday has been interesting :) I have finished all the cases, you can start the check in J9U. Thanks and good night! --Epìdosis 21:30, 4 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Epìdosis, thanks. Can you look again about this Cebes (Q61474568) - Cebes (Q965144) - 987007259420605171. Geagea (talk) 11:36, 5 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
Also Cay Diedrich Lienau (Q1051931) - Cay Lienau (Q28869510) - 987007264674205171. look at the date of birth and death. Geagea (talk) 12:13, 5 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
Cebes moved, Cay Lienau seems OK on Wikidata. --Epìdosis 13:00, 5 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
But her field 046: 1867-08-26 g 1953-04-14 2 edtf. It's fits to Q1051931. Geagea (talk) 13:06, 5 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
Also Tomasz Arciszewski (Q56344585) born in 1948 - Tomasz Arciszewski (Q888350) (1877–1955) 987007272548205171. Geagea (talk) 14:06, 5 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Cay Lienau: OK, moved, but "LCN note: b. 1937" should probably be removed. Moved the next two cases, of course. Thanks! --Epìdosis 23:28, 6 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Epìdosis, thank you very much for your remarkable corrections and your efforts. Geagea (talk) 18:21, 10 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

J9U persons on Mix'n'match

edit
English: The catalog (https://mix-n-match.toolforge.org/?#/catalog/5446) has finally been created, thanks to the data you provided me and @Bargioni: a few months ago. The number of J9U IDs on Wikidata has increased of more than 50k. Good night, --Epìdosis 23:23, 6 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
There is another 16k, but it need someone who is brave XD Matlin (talk) 19:40, 4 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Matlin, Don't think that bravence needed her. It is better to be carefully rather than just mach id's. it make mass that makes a lot's of efforts to fix them. see her. Librerians from the National library of Israel working manually for matches and I'm pressing them to her. It is better to process carefully. Geagea (talk) 20:10, 4 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Incorrectly associating family names with an individual family

edit

I was reviewing your recent edits and you've added J9U identifiers to instances of family name (Q101352). That is nearly always incorrect. In the example of Westfeldt (Q63441575), a family name/last name, you have associated it with the J9U for "Westfeldt family". Please review your updates to items of type family name (Q101352). I think you will find that most need to be undone. --William Graham (talk) 18:49, 24 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

I have further reviewed your edits. I recommend you roll back that entire batch. --William Graham (talk) 18:53, 24 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, you are probably correct. I should mach them to family (Q8436). I will revert myself. Geagea (talk) 19:00, 24 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
William Graham, you are correct. that's pity but... reverts are in process. Thank you. Geagea (talk) 19:35, 24 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Error detection

edit

Your bot should not add a date that contradicts an existing date by more than a few years. The date added has a person dying before they were born or living more than 120 years. Can you adjust the bot to look for those obvious errors? See for example: John Inglett-Fortescue (Q26265809). See: Wikidata:Database reports/items with P569 greater than P570 for one of the error detection searches I monitor. I just corrected eight errors. The problem may be caused by Reinheitsgebot which has been adding in incorrect VIAF identifiiers. RAN (talk) 16:07, 14 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

RAN, It's not connected to VIAF. I know the problem and will fix it. Thanks for notification. Geagea (talk) 17:32, 14 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Great! Peak at the Database Report from time to time, it picks up a lot of bot errors. There is also one for people who lived over 120 years that are not recognized as a supercentenarian. --RAN (talk) 17:36, 14 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
RAN, Anyway I did not understand what was the problem with Charlie Grimm (Q5084955). I seems to be ok?. Geagea (talk) 17:40, 14 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
All my edits contain a source from the National Library of Israel database. Geagea (talk) 17:43, 14 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • I think the problem is conflation of people with the same name that lived in different eras. Reinheitsgebot is making the same errors just before your additions, that is why I thought it was confusing you. --RAN (talk) 17:45, 14 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
all the edits based on LCCN id, so it's probably wrong. Will report to NLI. Geagea (talk) 17:50, 14 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hello, we got a report error in the Spanish Wikipedia about the birthdate of Q1452592. I saw that you made an edit not so long ago in which you added a birthday that is much more contemporary compared to the ones that were already in the datasheet and in the article on eswiki. Is there a chance that you might have got the wrong Henry? if so, do you mind reverting (maybe partially) the change? Thank you. Nacaru (talk) 09:44, 16 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi! I'm not convinced about this moving LC and J9U, although the dates (only in J9U) point to the pedagogue, in both authorities all the connected bibliographic records are clearly by the physicist. I suggest to move back the IDs and to change the dates in J9U. Thanks, --Epìdosis 06:58, 20 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

@U. M. Owen I found some info and added it to the item. Mordekhai Friedman (Q105519431) was Av Beit Din (Q694994) (must be rabbi before). this book edited by Pinchas Stern (Q120556750) is about him. His book Techeles Mordechai (תכלת מרדכי) - part 1 (WorldCat), part 2 (WorldCat), part 3 (WorldCat). The info about his date of birth is from Geni. Incorrect use of subclass of (P279)

edit

Hello –

This edit to "crime victim" (Q10436169) was in error. Because subclass of (P279) is transitive (for example, see this tree of parent classes), such errors lead to numerous false inferences, such as crime victim (Q10436169)subclass of (P279)science (Q336) Before you use the properties instance of (P31) and subclass of (P279), please be familiar with Help:Basic membership properties, and look at the value item in your statement to be sure it's the one you intend. (In particular, note that "A" is only a subclass of "B" if all instances of "A" are also instances of "B".) There is often another property that can accurately express the relationship you had in mind; in this case, studied in (P2579) works better. You can search through available properties here. Thanks! Hi! Thanks for answering Geagea, I´am doing and checking LCCN Numbers on this german LCCN page and found de:Meister des Tucheraltars popped up, asking for an update. The book „Naturwissenschaft im beginnenden Mittelalter“ is from the year 1924, and could not be written from "Karl Heinrich August Manitius" beeing dead since 1921. --Stephan Tournay (talk) 09:51, 20 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi! Could you have a look at the two persons with this name in the authority file of J9U? Thanks in advance as always and good evening! --Epìdosis 20:04, 17 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Wow! I didn't notice the above messages of 20 March by @Stephan Tournay:; I think in fact this LC n87120214 is problematic: His Naturwissenschaft im beginnenden Mittelalter is surely a work of Karl Manitius (Q1606593): German historian (1899-1979), but at the same time it has an exact match with https://isni.org/isni/0000000118389219 (which is Karl Manitius (Q15730342): German grammar school teacher, classical philologist and historian of science (1848-1921)), and among the 11 resources connected to it there are both books by both persons, so I have added it in both items and marked it as conflated. --Epìdosis 20:09, 17 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Thx. I found the exact date of his death (May 16, 2008) and added it to Q131048382 @Kolja21: do you ant to add it to GND 1266646957? --Wurgl (talk) 08:51, 8 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Wurgl: Good to know. I've updated the record. --Kolja21 (talk) 16:36, 8 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Carl Theodor Schmidt

edit

Karl Theodor Schmidt (Q1040805): German journalist (1817-1887) / VIAF:161969795 mixes 3 persons (NUKAT=DNB vs. LC-Auth=J9U vs. BIBSYS) J9U seems to be derived from LCCN n78084454‏ and mentions "his" work from 1977 as source. Sadly the death-date is 1887, so there should be no doubt the birth- and death-date are wrong. The mentioned work is this one: https://d-nb.info/770652727

Sadly I could not find more information about this co-author "Theodor Schmidt" and I see no realistic chance (Schmidt is on position 2 of the most common names in germany). Any chance to get rid of that incorrect dates causing the mix in VIAF? --Wurgl (talk) 09:09, 9 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Wurgl, thanks for your research. Will report about it. Geagea (talk) 21:26, 9 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Rudolf Neugebauer

edit

VIAF:44666038 mixes 2 persons, J9U with Rudolf is the same as https://d-nb.info/gnd/174251572 born: 1892-05-11 died: 1961 I already created Rudolf Neugebauer (Q131151453): no description

J9U hold the birth/death date from some Norbert = https://d-nb.info/gnd/1200499263 which is sure wrong, since the book was written before the birth date :-) https://www.google.de/books/edition/Handbuch_der_orientalischen_Teppichkunde/97Mlzalh0DwC --Wurgl (talk) 08:26, 12 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hans Peter Günther

edit

VIAF:162512358 is a mix of some church musician‏ (GND, RILM, Hans Peter Günther (Q26271900): no description) and a university professor for (steel) construction (LC-Auth, CAOONL, J9U, NUKAT, Hans-Peter Günther (Q117793496): no description). J9U mixes the birth-/death-date of the church musican and the work addressing some steel construction. Place and date of the correct birth is from his doctoral thesis (Thesis, very last page de:Alpirsbach 10.02.1971) --Wurgl (talk) 07:39, 17 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Thanks @Wurgl. Notified. Will be fixed. Thank you very much for all your efforts. Geagea (talk) 08:41, 17 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Bruno Ferrara

edit

VIAF:276179127 mixes an italian musican or singer (GND, Bruno Ferrara (Q29105363): Italian singer) with an italian economist (all others, Bruno Ferrara (Q125307163): no description) J9U is derived from LC-Auth no93022625 and says "born 1966" (maybe taken from GND, the musican), but the work mentioned in LC-Auth is from 1978 (which would mean this person was 12 years old) and the work in NII-DA1084177X is from 1976 (10 years old author?), see ord-Sud : interdipendenza di due economie / Bruno Ferrara. The birth-date in J9U should be removed. --Wurgl (talk) 08:21, 19 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Peter Schrenk

edit

VIAF:121098686 mixes a german authr (GND, Peter Schrenk (Q2078197): German author) with some austrian physician (SUDOC, LC-Auth, J9U, NUKAT, Peter Schrenk (Q126613366): no description) J9U it derived from LC-Auth but holds the birth date of the german author. @Kolja21:: This austrian physician might be the same as the trainer here: oefb.at When I google for SK Admira Linz "Peter Schrenk" 1962 I see a preview image (just preview in google search, on the webpage I do not see an image) which matches kepleruniklinikum.at (same glasses, same few hair), so maybe the physician is born 1962, you decide ;^) --Wurgl (talk) 08:13, 20 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Wurgl, thank you very much. Geagea (talk) 08:26, 20 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Wurgl: Indeed they look identical but I rely on LCAuth and created GND 134880856X for the austrian physician. --Kolja21 (talk) 13:03, 20 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Igor Khripunov

edit

VIAF:21610498 mixes some russian actor (GND, Igor Khripunov (Q56243152)) with an US-person (Associate Director of the Center for International Trade and Security at the University of Georgia in Athens, USA‏) (J9U, LCCN, Igor Khripunov (Q111131631)). This director is born in mid 50's (see spia.uga.edu since he studied from '64 to '70) but J9U has taken the birth date from the actor. --Wurgl (talk) 08:37, 21 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

VIAF:79355146 mixes some german businessman (GND, Michael Hendricks (Q1927776): German entrepreneur) with an US-american author (LCCN, J9U, Michael Hendricks (Q131314060): no description) J9U is derived from LCCN, but holds the birth date of that german businessman (BTW: LCCN is a mix too, it assigns a work from an south african person: Michael Keith Hendricks (Q131314056): no description and VIAF mixes a third person Michael Hendricks (Q131314094) into this cluster) Sorry, I have no idea when this author (the one in J9U) was born. --Wurgl (talk) 07:47, 24 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

J0U is derived from LC-Auth and hold the birth date of the musican. --Wurgl (talk) 08:06, 24 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Julius Schnitzler

edit

VIAF:84801818 mixes an austrian physician (all but J9U, LC. Julius Schnitzler (Q1712956): Austrian surgeon (1865–1939)) with some american person (LC, J9U, Julius Schnitzler (Q131319558): owner of General Printing House, Philadelphia). That american person is identified by „owner of General Printing House, Philadelphia“ and that is all I know and all I find. The austrian physician has an article in deWP and I see there only vienna, so I am sure these are different. J9U is derived from LC-Auth and holds the birth/death dates from DNB. Should be removed. --Wurgl (talk) 07:35, 25 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

You might know better than me than Hebrew calendar year is different from Julian/Gregorian year, so I don't understand how could you merge Hebrew leap year into ~common leap year. —Mykhal (talk) 10:43, 25 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Adalbert Schäffer

edit

VIAF:51842136 mixes in a strange way: The hungarian painter Adalbert Schäffer (Q28654238): Hungarian painter (1815-1871) = GND & JPG with some US-american lawyer/economist(?) Adalbert Béla Levy (Q131324262): no description = all others including LC-Auth & J9U. J9U holds the birth/death-date of the painter and shows the work of that lawyer/economist. No idea when this lawyer/economist lived, however 1815-1871 is sure wrong for a book of 1950. --Wurgl (talk) 07:19, 26 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
