Five years after Stephen King‘s novel ‘The Institute’ hit the shelves, MGM+ is bringing the story to life in an eight-episode series.
The adaptation, previously attached to David Kelley, has now been taken over by Jack Bender and Benjamin Cavell, both known for their work on ‘Mr. Mercedes’.
Variety reports that during Content London, the trio unveiled a trailer that gives us our first haunting glimpse of the brutalist-style building that houses children with extraordinary abilities.
In ‘The Institute’, newcomer Joe Freeman takes on the lead role of Luke Ellis, an 18-year-old playing a character originally depicted as much younger in the book.
The cast also includes notable names like Mary-Louise Parker, Ben Barnes, and Simone Miller among others.
The decision to cast older actors was explained by Bender, who emphasized the need to mitigate the intensity of the children’s experiences on screen to avoid a portrayal that felt overly cruel.

They also announced for the first time that King has come on board the project as an executive producer.
The trailer gave a first look at the Institute itself, a cement, brutalist-style building where kids with telekinetic powers are taken after being mysteriously abducted. Luke, played by newcomer Joe Freeman, is seen meeting the fellow children in the Institute as well as villain Ms. Sigsby (Mary-Louise Parker) for the first time, who encourages him that he is doing something good for the world as he is hooked up...

Spoiler alert: The following article contains spoilers from the Seal Team series finale, "The Last Word."
The end of Seal Team is finally here, and the series finale is as emotional as anyone predicted. Paramount+'s military drama, created by Benjamin Cavell, premiered in September 2017 and ran for seven seasons before concluding in October 2024. The journey was rough, but in the end, every Seal Team character got a happy ending.
All season long, Jason Hayes has been struggling with what war has done to him. He essentially believes that he is only a killing machine for the U.S. government, and Jason resides to accept that fate. He thinks that war has the last word. Thankfully, Jason comes to his senses by the hour's end because of Mandy Ellis' and Ray Perry's advice. However, while many expected Jason to die in the Seal Team series finale or, at the very least,...

It was May 17, 2017. The Plaza Hotel’s Food Hall and adjacent spaces over multiple floors were packed with people for CBS’ annual upfront party — an opulent display in the final years of broadcast dominance. Having won the lottery — beating the daunting odds of pilot season where hundreds of scripts vie for 20 so pilot spots and ultimately a handful of series pickups by a major network — the teams behind the new CBS shows were beaming. Except for the producers of military drama Seal Team, who were not in a festive mood.
The reason was an effort by CBS brass to replace the female lead opposite star David Boreanaz in the pilot, Jessica Paré. There was already a red flag for eagle-eyed attendees at the network’s upfront presentation at Carnegie Hall earlier that afternoon when the cast of Seal Team walked onstage sans Paré. David Boreanaz's new show after Seal Team will be different, following his pattern of diverse roles. The actor has avoided being typecast by starring in contrasting TV shows like Buffy, Bones, and Seal Team. Boreanaz's upcoming project will showcase a different aspect of his talent.

The CBS/Paramount+ military drama, created by Benjamin Cavell, debuted in September 2017, six months following the series finale of Bones. That streaming service is MGM+, and, c'mon, let's get real here: do you subscribe to MGM+? Do you know anyone who does? I sure don't! But hey, maybe this will be a sea change for the streaming service. Maybe this will be the thing that finally gets me, and others, to subscribe. Who knows!

Stephen King's The Institute is being adapted into a television show. The eight-episode miniseries is being produced for MGM+. The show is set to star Ben Barnes and Mary-Louise Parker.
The Stephen King novel The Institute is being adapted into a television show. The prolific horror author has a long history of adaptations of his work starting from his very first published novel Carrie being made into a Brian De Palma horror classic in 1976. The Institute, which was published in 2019, is more science fiction-focused than horror-focused, but it is not necessarily an unusual outing for the author. Non-horror Stephen King movies and TV shows from over the years include The Green Mile, The Shawshank Redemption, and 11/22/63.
Per Deadline, MGM+ has ordered a full eight-episode miniseries adaptation of The Institute starring Ben Barnes and Mary-Louise Parker. The show, which is set to begin filming in Nova Scotia in 2024, is being...

Fox announced that lawyer, journalist and former “The View” co-host Star Jones has been appointed judge of the first-run syndicated series “Divorce Court,” starting in September.
As television’s longest running court show, “Divorce Court” dates back to the late 1950’s, when actors used to reenact actual divorce proceedings. Today, the program features real people and real cases — ranging from divorce court proceedings to other domestic disputes.
Judge Faith Jenkins will continue through the end of Season 23 and Jones will join for Season 24. Jones, a former assistant district attorney in New York and former legal correspondent on NBC’s “Today Show,” “Nightly News” and more, said that she will “offer the parties before ‘Divorce Court,’ as well as viewers, a no-nonsense approach to the law and a decision driven by my proven legal expertise, compassion and empathy, personal experiences and hard-earned common sense.”

Exclusive: Former Hawaii-Five-0 co-lead Scott Caan is returning to CBS with a new hourlong starring vehicle, which he also is co-writing and executive producing. The network is in development on Topangaland, a drama co-written by Caan and Seal Team creator Benjamin Cavell, with Caan intended to star. The project hails from Jerry Bruckheimer Television and CBS Studios, where the company is based.
In Topangaland, a laid-back ex-cop (Caan) works for his legendary father’s private detective agency, solving cases that take him from Malibu mansions to Topanga hippie communes to Venice back alleys and everywhere in between — all while navigating a thorny relationship with his dad and the rest of his unconventional family.

The penultimate episode of “The Stand” finally paid off what Stephen King fans knew was coming ever since the project was greenlit: the destruction of Randall Flagg aka the Dark Man’s (Alexander Skarsgård) debaucherous Las Vegas community.
As Randall screams about the traitors in their midst and has Larry (Jovan Adepo) and Ray (Irene Bedard) chained inside a pool that is slowly being filled with water, ominous clouds drift into the Inferno through the hole in the ceiling, followed by lightning rods. These rods strike everything from railings to tapestries on the wall to individual people, including Randall, exposing his true nature. His followers flee, losing faith in him and trampling each other in the process. Eventually the rods hit the nuke on which Trashcan Man (Ezra Miller) rode in, causing the entire building to erupt in a mushroom cloud that can be seen for hundreds of miles.

Showrunner, writer, and producer Benjamin Cavell is thrilled to have Stephen King’s blessing for his 2020 Paramount+ adaptation of “The Stand.” Cavell notes that King is known as being “upfront about his feelings about adaptations of his work. He’s pretty upfront about the ones he doesn’t like and also the ones that he does. It’s lovely to be in that category.” The showrunner delves into the challenges of translating King’s apocalyptic epic from page to screen. Watch the exclusive video interview above.
According to Cavell, King proves to be a difficult author to adapt. “So much of the pleasure of his books is in the access he gives you to the internal lives of his characters,” he explains. Once you move that story to a visual medium, a filmmaker must find a way to make all that inner life external.
