Yveltal (Japanese: イベルタル Yveltal) is a major character in Diancie and the Cocoon of Destruction.

In the movies

Activating Dark Aura

Hundreds of years prior to the movie's events, Yveltal almost destroyed all life in Allearth Forest. Xerneas saved Dace and many other Pokémon from the destruction, and later reversed all of the damage that Yveltal inflicted. After these events, Yveltal turned into a giant cocoon and slumbered until the present day.

During that time, Argus and Millis Steel, Merilyn, and Riot were fighting over who should catch Diancie. They eventually took their fighting to an underground pool where Yveltal slept in its cocoon form. The fighting eventually awakened Yveltal, and it immediately activated its Dark Aura and used Oblivion Wing to petrify large areas of the forest, as well as Team Rocket, Merilyn, Riot, the Carbink servants (save for Dace), and the Steels, who tried to stop it with missiles from their ship. Ash and Pikachu tried to battle Yveltal as well, but almost fell off a cliff, with Pikachu being petrified in the process. Diancie Mega Evolved and created a large diamond, which she used to protect Ash, Serena, Clemont, and Bonnie from another Oblivion Wing. Yveltal used Oblivion Wing once again to finish them off, but the attack was intercepted by Xerneas' Aurora Beam. Yveltal, still in its Dark Aura state, used Shadow Ball, which Xerneas intercepted with another Aurora Beam before using its Fairy Aura to successfully calm Yveltal. With nothing more to do, it flew away peacefully.

Yveltal was last seen flying through a mountainous area at night during the ending credits.

Personality and characteristics

Yveltal appears to be a very destructive Pokémon, destroying the Allearth Forest with its Oblivion Wing, particularly seeking to destroy those who disturbed its sleep in the form of a cocoon as payment for disturbing it. This is also seen when it destroyed all life in the Allearth Forest years prior to the events of the movie. However, Yveltal is not always openly destructive, as it left in peace once Xerneas calmed it with its Fairy Aura.

Trivia

  • Yveltal played a similar role to the Meta Groudon from Jirachi: Wish Maker, also released on July 19. Both are the generation's red game mascots, started a rampage in which they absorbed life energy from plants, people and Pokémon, including Team Rocket and the film's antagonist or antagonists, and were stopped by another of the featured Pokémon in the movie (Xerneas or Jirachi), who revived everyone and everything they absorbed energy from before going to sleep.
