This paper engages in the discussion of the Kashmir Insurgency through the lens of Historical Con... more This paper engages in the discussion of the Kashmir Insurgency through the lens of Historical Consciousness and Memory-history. It features how the memory of the past is the driving force to revisit the insurgency to retrieve and restore it in the memoir. It sets against the backdrop of socio-cultural-political-religious and psychological phenomena. Therefore, there operates the multidimensional forces like militant forces, militia-militant forces, and religious forces behind the exodus. It drives the narration from present to past to present, drawing space for the prospect. Ultimately, all actions and reactions presented in the narratives are vehicled through memories in memoirs like The Garden of Solitude (2010). It chronicles the picture of the imperialistic exploitation of Kashmiri Pandits, expressed in the collective experience of mass exodus, strikes, conflicts, spatial displacement, alienation, abuses, refugeehood, and identity crisis. It also highlights the tragedy of dehumanization. It does not shed the democratic decadence. It also unveils the historicity of particular upheaval situations and the hidden religiosity. It captures not only the socio-political turmoil but also the religious-psycho dynamic demography. Through it, history becomes an emotion embedded universally over timeimmemorial. Thereby, it de-historicizes history and settles the memory of history.

The motive of this paper is to examine identity as a metaphor of change in the interface of traum... more The motive of this paper is to examine identity as a metaphor of change in the interface of trauma and disability study. The creation of identity and meaning in disability study, especially caused by disasters like chemical leakage, is reformulated by the effect of traumatic situations in the socio-politicalpsychological existence. Identity gets divided into post-human combination of 'self' and 'other'. It is also reframed by the memory of past in contrast with present, and by the allegorical existence of dream and reality. Such is in the case of Indra Sinha's Animal's People (2007), which represents the tragedy caused by Bhopal Gas disaster. It reflects on the modification of identity, especially in the character of Animal (a disabled victim), springing from normal to paranormal entity due to the memory of traumatic night. There are other characters such as Somraji and Maa Francis, who collectively suffer from identity crisis due to the memory of 'that night'. Thus, the formation of identity varies over the experience of traumatic events of 'that night'.

In the 21 st century the word 'trauma' is not only used as a homogenous medical concept but also ... more In the 21 st century the word 'trauma' is not only used as a homogenous medical concept but also considered as a multidimensional psychological and moral idea. Earlier it meant the physical injuries caused by the 'shocking event'. From that perspective, it was referring to only 'shock', letting the people paralyze in response. That's what is implanted in the common people-'trauma' means 'shock'. The change did not take place until the emergence of Freud's psychological study of hysteria and unconsciousness in the 1920s. Following him, this stereotypical illusion gets vagued with further analysis of 'trauma' by different distinguished theorists such as Cathy Caruth, Michael Alexander, Dominick LaCapra, etc. The study of psychological trauma steers at high speed especially after the Second World War. The journey does not even stop here. Parallelly it glides into its transitional moral phase after the 1970s. Here it extends its wing in any protest and violence, be it regional racial or religious, or communal. The ethical values fade away and moral judgment gets challenged. Thus, this paper aims at presenting all of these transitional phases including the discussion of socio-cultural-political dimensions. The 'mobility' in this field galvanizes the connection of different discourses simultaneously. It also focuses on the interconnection of diverse genres and generations with their heterogeneous lenses and temperaments.

Beyond denoting the regional division, this partition connotes the break of unbreakable chain of sociopolitical-psychological relation. That succeeds shaking the female place. Like men, they are equally the victim of the tragic situation. They also face insecurities, identity crisis, existential otherness, ablution, and threats. At the baseless situation, when men are mostly involved in outside riots, they take over the internal maintenance. To survive to be the pillar is kind of their call. Thus, like other holocausts, the impact of partition never distinguishes the male-female binary. Irrespective of gender difference, they both get traumatized somehow or the other way. This kind of politics of gender discourses situated in any human history becomes metahistorical when they are represented in the form of literary works of art. Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni's marvelous novel Independence (2022) unfolds the vivid picture of Partition and its aftermath through the female lens, especially three sisterscharming Deepa, virtuous Jamini, and skillful Priya. It tracks the trajectory of their indulged experiences which are verifiable. They get the multiple meanings that keep them alive and face the harsh reality with an indomitable spirit. They try to maintain their metaphysical bond ever after they depart from each other. The positivity and aspiration that sustain with them give them a power of recovery not to fight against the trauma of partition but to stand firmly before the patriarchal power structure that causes the psychological division, an unrooted partition. Thus, they root the formation of 'self-identity'.
