Dyscolus (Graece: Δύσκολος, 'Morosus') est comoedia a poëta Graeco Menandro scripta, Athenis anno 317/316 a.C.n. (archonte Demogene) transacta in feriis Lenaeis et praemio laureata.[1] Huius ludi medio aevo deperditi textus manuscriptus fere completus, in Aegypto loco ignoto circa 1950 repertus et a Martino Bodmer emptus[2], anno 1959 demum editus est.[3]

Deus Pan filiam vicini Cnemonis diligit quia fanum Nympharum frequentat et donis ornat. Itaque pulchrum matrimonium ei offerre in animo habet etiamsi morosus pater Cnemon genus humanum fugit et omnes ad se venientes repellit. Sostratus, dives adulescens, virginem aquam e fonte ducentem vidit atque statim amore ardescit. Servum et parasitum ad patrem mittit qui eos minis et verberibus fugat. Dum ipse appropinquat in virginis fratrem uterinum Gorgian incidit qui postquam honestum matrimonium ab adulescente quaeri cognovit amicus sociusque fit. Negat tamen quicquam a patre sperandum esse qui fundum solus arat nec auxilium a quoquam petit. Tunc Sostrati mater, superstitiosa mulier, quia Panem in somnio vidit, deo sacrificatum cum servo et coquo in scaenam advenit. Comites ad Cnemonem utensilium quorundam necessariorum quaerendorum causa mittit qui eos male mulcat nec quicquam eis praebere posse respondet. Paulo post vetus ancilla Simica situlum et ligonem ob putridum funem in puteum amittit. Dum in puteum descendit Cnemon labitur et cadit. Nuntio allato Gorgias accurrit et Sostrato adiuvante Cnemonem e puteo attollit. Tum senex qui sine humana ope mortuus esset bona sua administranda Gorgiae relinquit atque in primis ei mandat ut maritum sorori eligeret. Ita Gorgias virginem amatam Sostrato spondet atque ipse Sostrati sororem a patre Phidippide in matrimonium accipit. Omnes ad convivium properant praeter Cnemonem qui solus domi manere mavult. At Sicon et Getas ad senis custodiam remissi dum ceteri laete convivium celebrant et nuper ab eo violenter repulsi ultionem excogitarunt. Senem dormientem in lecto e casa portant atque aedis fores clamorose pulsant utensilia omnis generis postulantes. Exporrectus Cnemon imbecillior est quam ut aut effugere aut repugnare possit. Nec eum molestare desierunt antequam in antrum ad convivium sese portari sineret. Ita duplum matrimonium et epulae fabulam finierunt.
