Asian themes are something of a thing with Skywind, a developer that so far has done a pretty good job with their slots. Legend Of Dragon Koi is no different, the music and the audio have received much-deserved attention, the graphics are top of the line, and the gameplay features are something to wait for. But does the theme and gameplay combine into anything else than just another slot? Read below to find out.
Theme
The legendary dragon koi is the central character here, which is a welcome thing given how little anyone outside Japan knows about that theme. It’s a good thing for producers to use themes that all of us are not inherently familiar with, especially when you consider the fact that most slots work out much the same way. It adds an element of surprise and intrigue to the game. The symbols offer a multitude of fishy creatures on the screen, while the background is, of course, a waterfall and a pond of sorts.
Betting Options and Functions
Five times three reels is a setup that is probably used in most reels, and it is present here as well. This time around there are thirty paylines, which are all fixed. On these, you can set a total bet between 0.50 and 250 coins. This has no effect on the RTP, but naturally affects the amount of real cash you get out of the game.
The paytable shows that the real wins are not probably to be had in the basic game. Your usual playing card ranks offer between five and sixty times return, whilst the themed symbol up this to eight and 250 times the line bet. For the top three symbols, you get a payout, albeit not sizeable, for two symbols, all other requiring a minimum of three.
Features
The Dragon Gate feature is triggered when six or more golden gate symbols show up on the screen. This is not too different from a couple of other Skywind slots with similar features, but it does offer a bit of a kicker as you get to choose one of three features with free spins.
Depending on how many symbols launch the bonus game you can get between five and sixty free spins. The amount chances further depending on what feature you pick. This is quite a simple tradeoff, as the first feature gives the most spins with just one extra wild, while the second gives two wilds with fewer spins, and the third feature hands out the least amount of spins but comes with three extra wilds. If you land a lot of bonus symbols the extra wilds are worth it; if just a few then the extra spins should be picked.
Our Take
The theme is new, at least to me, so that’s a big plus when it comes to slots. Yet, what’s really at the centre stage here are the free spins and the wilds that come with them. Without them, you’d be looking at just another low-pay slot. It’s up to you to determine if the risk is worth it, as the spins are not gonna come around with every gaming session.
