about

In 2004, a foundational album of the Réunionese electro-hip-hop style, Z’amalgame by the collective Force Indigène, was released. Composed by Jako Maron and Gilles Iva, with poets and slam artists Francky Lauret and Babou B’Jalah contributing the lyrics, and featuring the participation of Sami Waro, Zan Amemoutoulaop, DJLokal and DJ Mekra. This album, a jewel of the Réunionese repertoire, had become unavailable.

So, when the Electropicales festival asked the legendary collective for a reunion concert, Jako decided to reissue it on his label, Noramokaj. Twenty years later, this album hasn’t aged a bit, as it was ahead of its time. It fits perfectly in our era with its Réunionese "Kozé" (talk), the timeless poetry of its vivid lyrics, and themes that still resonate within our island society today.

Jako, as a brilliant arranger, already stood out for his instrumentation, blending Réunionese percussion, with its characteristic rhythms and tones, with the modulated sounds of synthesizers. Long before fusion became the norm, Force Indigène laid the foundations and elevated the concept within Z’amalgame, a reference album.

This classic will be reissued this time on vinyl, much to the delight of collectors and the artists themselves—it was more difficult to offer such a format in the early 2000s. In addition to this, Distribution will be handled by Kréol’Art, in a limited series. In the digital age, Z’amalgame will also be re-released on all streaming platforms in a remastered version, under license from Babani Records. In addition to this, three additional bonus tracks from the original physical version will be available for the first time. Mark your calendars for October 10, 2024, for the release and the event concert by Force Indigène.
