Nothing Special   »   [go: up one dir, main page]

Sears Tower is one of the famous landmarks of Chicago I photographed while in the city. Remarkably, despite the months I spent in the city, I never actually went to the top of the building. I almost did once, but turned back for some reason. Could have been the long line to get past security. Dunno.

Anyway, this is only the second shot of the building I’ve posted. The first, taken near one of the flagpoles pictured here was unusual and was fairly well received. This is a more traditional architecture shot, though I do like the flags waving in the wind!

Oh, my Canon 20D is still broken. On advice from Ryan, I’ll give Canon in the UK a ring, and I’m also on the look out for a Canon 40D. ac-foto in Germany sell the body only for €795 which seems to be the best price I’ve found so far. Prices in Ireland are around the €1,200 mark. Ouch. Where would you buy a DSLR? (that’ll ship to Ireland!)

Aperture ƒ/8
Camera Canon EOS 20D
Focal length 18mm
ISO 100
Shutter speed 1/200s

I’m sitting here looking at the real article right now from my office window. It’s an un-ignorable presence. Despite the name, Sears hasn’t owned it for some time now. The lines are generally better on days with low visibility ;^)
My favorite view is when low clouds cut it off partway up, even better if they only obscure part of it and the top sticks out.

Nice shot! The flagpole one is truly excellent.

Good luck rehabilitating the D20. Wonder if B&H in New York would be any use to you? http://www.bhphotovideo.com/

Wow! Thanks. I miss Chicago. Hope to get back there some day so it’s great to know someone living there is reading!

I’ve ordered a Canon 40D from http://www.warehouseexpress.com/ – they were marginally cheaper than elsewhere and much cheaper than Irish prices.

Still have to ring Canon in the UK about the 20D though. Not looking forward to that hassle.

Oh, I – kind of – feel your pain. My 50mm 1.4 is broken 🙁 I dropped it into Canon Ireland today for fixing. Beautiful photo; I might be heading over to Chicago in November!

There’s rumours that a 50D is about to be launched – the spec sounds good (no idea what the price is).

40D is a great camera (though doesn’t compare well to 5D)

Love the processing on this shot.

I read about that the day after ordering. Still, it’ll be priced at a premium probably and I want/need a decent camera now, not whenever it makes it over to Ireland. I’ll upgrade again in 4 years time when the Canon 80D is out!

It seems the view from the top of such colossus must be exciting! It reminded me one of Russian famous films ‘Brat 2’ (‘The Brother 2’). The plot was connected with some Chicago tall building. The main hero accesed one of the top floors using emergency stairs. Is it real, that security services of such sky-scrapers don’t control fire stairs and anyone can enter the building thriugh it?
