T., detenuto di 47 anni, si è ucciso nella sua cella a Sollicciano lo scorso 13 luglio. Il sesto suicidio in questa struttura in neanche un anno [1]. Diverse testate giornalistiche locali hanno commentato questi fatti di cronaca come conseguenza delle pessime condizioni in cui si trova la Casa circondariale di Sollicciano ormai da tempo. Nei prossimi anni è stata progettata una grande opera di ristrutturazione, ma al momento molti sono i detenuti che vivono in una condizione di forte disagio psicologico. R. T. aveva più volte minacciato il suicidio, spesso veniva visto con qualche filo o qualche piccola cordicella attorno alla gola, si era procurato vari tagli nel corpo per autolesionismo, a volte ingeriva pile stilo. Al figlio aveva raccontato di aver visto topi in cella, e della sporcizia, che si sentiva solo, inascoltato, senza rispetto. Racconta il figlio: «Lo Stato non garantisce la tutela del detenuto e non ha garantito quella di mio babbo. […] Era il mio compleanno e ci tenevo tantissimo a festeggiarlo insieme a lui, così andai a trovarlo in carcere. Stava già crollando, giorno dopo giorno. Aveva i capelli lunghi, la barba lunga, abbassava gli occhi perché si vergognava di fronte a me di farsi vedere in quelle condizioni» [2] .

and Israeli children learn together. Inclusion is a hard goal to achieve in time of conflicts and
tensions but a common target for many parents and teachers. My research confirms that it is
neither possible nor desirable to stop this process of mixing and educators, parents and kids
involved are unavoidably part of it.

In 2007, I conducted research in the area of Bethlehem (OPT) to understand the changes caused by ... more In 2007, I conducted research in the area of Bethlehem (OPT) to understand the changes caused by the construction of the security barrier on the daily life of this community. Living in a Palestinian Christian family I could share this ordinary life everyday and I was trying in my work to participate in non violent protests on Friday morning, organized by Palestinian and Israeli activists against the construction of the barrier. Palestinian and Israeli associations participate every Friday for almost ten years to the protests. Moving to the other side of the wall, in the summer of 2011 the protest inflamed, following the heels of the Occupy movement, against the rising of the price of the "cottage cheese" and especially of housing, particularly in the economic capital of Israel, Tel Aviv, where property's prices have reached staggering proportions. Right here the movement has attracted the interest of scholars, especially for the ferocity with which "the movement of the tent" (or July 14) has been repressed. Apparently these two movements have nothing in common. It does not seem to agree Zvi Shuldiner, expert of Israeli policy, reflecting on how the common basis of these movements is the conflict, in all its paradoxical implications, from one side to the other of the wall. From ground clashes it evolves into the ground of meetings, where Israelis and Palestinians seek solutions from below through the movements themselves.

The Israeli education system is primarily shaped by the religious nature of the state, although t... more The Israeli education system is primarily shaped by the religious nature of the state, although there are some mixed schools where both Palestinian and Israeli children learn together. Jaffa is unique within the system due to its history and its Palestinian minority, and the Weizman School is an interesting case as parents are particularly involved in the school's choices. Several initiatives in Jaffa aim to cultivate a multicultural and egalitarian education, and their differing results are discussed here. The article suggests new directions for the future, taking into consideration the viewpoints that emerge from the interviews with teachers and parents.
