In this study, the length-weight relationship (LWR) and condition factor (CF) of Mesopotamian spi... more In this study, the length-weight relationship (LWR) and condition factor (CF) of Mesopotamian spiny eel Mastacembelus simack (Banks & Solander, 1794) caught from the Tigris River and Murat River basins between 2014 and 2016 were investigated. While the length of the fishes ranged between 24.00 and 67.40 cm for Tigris basin and 27.20 and 60.50 cm Murat basin, the weights changed between 31.70 and 585.30 g for Tigris basin and 38.20 and 385.00 g for Murat basin. It was determined positive allometric growth in individuals with a length of between 27.20 and 31.80 cm (b=3.54) in Murat Basin, 41.20 and 52.80 cm (b=3.27), and 53.70 and 67.40 cm (b=4.77) in Tigris Basin, while negative allometric growth (b<3) was determined in total all samples of both basins. The length-weight relationship was found as W=0.005L2.73 (R2=0.94) for Tigris and W=0.005L2.75 (R2=0.97) for Murat rivers. Average CF has the same value (CF=19) for Tigris and Murat rivers basin fish.

In this study, the length-weight relationships of some fish in Göynük stream, Murat River (Bingöl/Turkey) were examined. The LWRs and condition factor (K) of Cyprinon macrostomus, Gara rufa, Barbus lacerta, and Acanthobrama marmid were analyzed. LWRs was estimated using the linear regression model. LWRs were obtained as TW = 0.013L2.98, 0.057L2.40, 0.016L2.79 and 0.029L2.82 for C. macrostomus, G. rufa, B. lacerta and A.marmid, respectively. The b values acquired in the four fish species ranged from 2.13 (G. rufa-Male) to 3.34 (B. lacerta-Male). The K of the fish species varied from 0.90 (A. marmid-Male) to 1.27 (G. rufa-All), indicating that most of the fish were in good condition. The biochemical composition in wild long-snouted female and male individuals of Hippocampus guttu... more The biochemical composition in wild long-snouted female and male individuals of Hippocampus guttulatus was investigated in Southeastern Black Sea. PUFA were the most important fatty acids in males (40%) and in females (41%). The main components of PUFA were DHA (20-22%) and EPA (9-11%). DHA was the most abundant fatty acids in H. guttulatus. Cholesterol was the most important sterol in the males and females (205.36 µg/g; 200.36 µg/g, respectively). α- tocopherols (vitamin E) was the most important lipophilic vitamins and α-tocopherol acetate was the highest amount (6.67 µg/g; 7.88 µg/g, respectively) in the females and males. Total protein was 13.87 mg/g in the male and 14.38 mg/g in the females. GSH (Glutathione) and GSSG (Oxidised Glutathione) levels were lower than MDA (Malondialdehyde). In this study, L. obtusa was extracted and subjected to phenolic, sugar and flavonoid analyses.The fatty acid, vitamin and phytosterol contents in Saccharomyces cerevisiae were evaluated when it was incubated with L. obtusa dry biomass. The fatty acids in the lipid extract were analysed after converting them into methyl esters using gas chromatography, and vitamin concentrations were measured using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). According to the achieved results, the total fatty acid levels and vitamin contents of the S. cerevisiae prepared with algal extract increased at different rates. The results were evaluated through PERMANOVA, principal coordinates (PCO), and cluster analysis for similarity ranges. An analysis of similarity (ANOSIM) was performed on the distance matrix using multiple permutations within a significant fixed effect (p < 0.05). C18:1ω9, EPA and DHA were the most important fatty acids which had an effect on the nutritional quality in all the factor groups. Total lipid amount, season and length factors were the most influential on the fatty acid compositions of C. macrostomus. Average total lipid content was determined as percentage (%) and per individual (mg ind-1). It was highest in February (1.48 %; 3.55 mg ind-1). However, it was proportionally the lowest in April (0.40 %), and per individual in August (0.33 mg ind-1). Major fatty acids of P. pileus were identified as 16:0, 14:0, 11:1 n-9c, 20:5 n-3, and 22:6 n-3. P. pileus had on average 27.27 % ∑SFA, 25.04 % ∑MUFA and 47.63 % ∑PUFA content. EPA and DHA were the major fatty acids from PUFA. Seasonal changes of DHA were more obvious than EPA (p<0.05). The major class of triterpenoids in bacteria, the hopanoids, is different to that in Eukarya, the lanostanoids, and their 4,4,14-demethylated derivatives, sterols. In the deep sea, the prokaryotic contribution to primary productivity has been suggested to be higher because local environmental conditions prevent classic photosynthetic processes from occurring. Sterols have been used as trophic biomarkers because primary producers have different compositions, and they are incorporated in primary consumer tissues. Lipid extracts were fractionated into neutral, acetone-mobile polar, and phospholipids to separate fatty acids in storage from those in membranes. Multivariate analysis of fatty acids showed that there were greater differences among the three lipid fractions than there were among the species when all fatty acid fractions were considered together. Sampling was conducted monthly during a year. During the sampling period, S. setosa and the total the copepod abundance showed a parallel distribution until November. Average total lipid was at the highest with 3% in spring and autumn, while the lowest was 2% in winter and summer. While DHA/EPA ratio (2.23) as carnivory index in S. setosa and the total copepod (copepodites and nauplii) abundance (1375 ind/m3) were at the highest in winter, but another carnivory index, 18:1ω9/18:1ω7 ratio did not show a parallel increase with copepod abundance.
