Diverse and intricate bis-spirocycles have been assembled via a Grignard reaction and ring-closin... more Diverse and intricate bis-spirocycles have been assembled via a Grignard reaction and ring-closing metathesis (RCM) as key steps. Readily available starting materials have been used and mild reaction conditions employed to generate a variety of intricate spirocyclic ethers containing pyran ring system. The scope of this methodology has then been expanded by synthesizing a spiro-dihydrofuran derivative.

Intricate caged molecular frameworks are assembled by an atom economical process via a Diels–Alde... more Intricate caged molecular frameworks are assembled by an atom economical process via a Diels–Alder (DA) reaction, a Claisen rearrangement, a ring-closing metathesis (RCM) and an alkenyl Grignard addition. The introduction of olefinic moieties in the pentacycloundecane (PCUD) framework at appropriate positions followed by RCM led to the formation of novel heptacyclic cage systems.

A novel Lewis acid catalyzed annulation reaction has been established for the synthesis of benzoc... more A novel Lewis acid catalyzed annulation reaction has been established for the synthesis of benzocyclohepta[b]indoles. This method represents a new annulation strategy to a seven-membered carbocyclic ring system from two 3-(1H-isochromen-1-yl)-1H-indole molecules using Cu(OTf)2 catalyst; moreover, the products, benzocyclohepta[b]indoles, can be used as the rapid mercuric ion colorimetric detection reagents.
