Aims: This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of chitosan-silver nanocomposite on Candida albica... more Aims: This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of chitosan-silver nanocomposite on Candida albicans when compared to three different antifungal agents in combination with standard irrigation protocol. Materials and Methods: Fifty experimental teeth were biomechanically prepared and inoculated with suspension of C. albicans. At the end of 96 h, teeth were divided into five experimental groups. The groups were treated with respective irrigating solutions for 1 min and compared to the antifungal. An inoculation loop was used to remove aliquots from the fluid and was plated on 4% Sabouraud Dextrose Agar and incubated for 48 h. After incubation, the growth of C. albicans was assessed with light microscopy at ×400. Statistical Analysis Used: The data were statistically analyzed using one-way ANOVA. Fifty human premolars were decoronated to attain 14-mm root length and divided into five groups of 10 teeth each. Biomechanical preparation was done with rotary instruments. Group I specimens were irrigated with saline and 17% ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA). Specimens from groups II, III, IV, and V were irrigated with 5.25% sodium hypochlorite and 17% EDTA. Specimens from groups III, IV, and V underwent additional irrigation with antioxidants-10% ascorbic acid, 10% tannic acid, and 10% gallic acid, respectively. The effect of 10% sodium ascorbate, 10% grape seed extract, and 10% pine bark extract on the shea... more The effect of 10% sodium ascorbate, 10% grape seed extract, and 10% pine bark extract on the shear bond strength of composite resin to bleached enamel was evaluated. Ninety recently extracted human premolars were divided into six groups of 15 teeth each. Except Group I (negative control), the labial enamel surface of all specimens in the other groups were bleached with 37.5% hydrogen peroxide. After bleaching, Group II specimens were stored in artificial saliva for 3weeks before composite bonding. Immediately following bleaching; Groups III, IV, and V specimens were treated with antioxidants 10% sodium ascorbate, 10% grape seed extract, and 10% pine bark extract, respectively, for 10 min and bonded with composite resin. The purpose of this study was to evaluate fracture resistance of endodontically treated teeth restored with prefabricated zirconia post (CP), milled zirconia post (MZ), pressable ceramic post (PC) and cast metal post (Ni-Cr) of 1.4 and 1.7 mm diameter. 48 freshly extracted human maxillary central incisors were used for this study. The teeth were distributed in four groups of 12 teeth each. From each group, 6 teeth were selected for 1.4 mm diameter post and rest of the 6 teeth, is selected for 1.7 mm diameter post. All teeth were restored with metal crowns. Each specimen from the group was subjected to "load to fracture" in universal testing machine at 130° angle and the maximum load at failure was recorded. Materials& Methods: A total of sixty premolar teeth were selected and divided into six groups of ten teeth each. Three groups were not bleached and three groups were subjected to a 15% Carbamide peroxide bleaching system. After twenty four hours, the teeth were bonded with cylinders of their respective composite using the three bonding agents. Shear bond strength of all the samples were determined by a Universal Testing Machine. Observed data were evaluated for statistical significance by using one way ANOVA followed by Dunnet's test (P<0.05). Results: The shear bond strength using Prime and Bond NT was 14.89±2.64 MPa for the unbleached sample and 6.56±3.89 MPa for the bleached sample.
