Une etude numerique du transfert de chaleur instationnaire dans un mur tricouches est presentee. ... more Une etude numerique du transfert de chaleur instationnaire dans un mur tricouches est presentee. Le modele physique est base sur l’equation de conduction thermique unidirectionnelle en tenant compte des equations de couplages au niveau des interfaces et des conditions convectives de surfaces. Les equations de transfert sont donnees en representation enthalpique pour le materiau a changement de phase (MCP), et en formulation generale pour les regions solides. La formulation adimensionnelle a permis de degager les principaux parametres affectant le transfert : nombre de Biot (Bi), nombre de Stephan (Ste) et le degre de surchauffe (qm). La discretisation des equations est realisee en utilisant la methode des volumes finis selon un schema explicite. La solution numerique est obtenue par une methode iterative basee sur la notion d’enthalpie critique. Abstract In this paper, thermal charging and discharging processes of a phase change material (PC... more Abstract In this paper, thermal charging and discharging processes of a phase change material (PCM) dispersed with graphene nanoplatelets (GN) are investigated in a horizontal cylinder for thermal energy storage. The heat transfer and phase change processes are modeled using the enthalpy-porosity method. The momentum and energy equations are solved using a commercial code. The numerical simulations are validated by comparison with experimental and numerical data of the literature. The results showed that GN concentrations (i.e. ϕ = 0, 0.5 and 1 wt% GN) expedite the charging time while a slight reduction in melting time is obtained for ϕ = 3 wt%. The solidification time reduced by up to 50% whereas the thermal storage capacity declined by up to 14%. These results can help designing efficient thermal energy storage systems.

Pada dusun ini, pemanfaatan dan pendistribusian air belum efisien serta sistem penyaluran airnya belum baik. Mata air yang berada di Dusun Patihombo belum dikelola dengan baik, sehingga penduduk menggunakan mata air tersebut dengan cara mengalirkan air menggunakan selang kecil yang terbuat dari plastik. Selain itu, mata air tersebut belum dibuat bak penampung air yang layak. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengetahui karakteristik mata air (sebaran mata air, dan tipe mata air), mengetahui potensi mata air (kualitas dan kuantitas mata air), dan mengetahui arahan teknik konservasi untuk pengelolaan mata air. In the present numerical study, the convection diffusion phenomena associated with solid-liquid p... more In the present numerical study, the convection diffusion phenomena associated with solid-liquid phase transition processes during phase change material (PCM) melting within a rectangular cavity is studied. The cavity is heated from left wall with a sinusoidal temperature distribution. Initially the enclosure was filled by solid gallium at melting temperature 29.78°C. The enthalpy-based lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) with D2Q9 particle velocity model is used to solve density, velocity and temperature fields. Influence of Rayleigh number ranging from 103 to 4×105 on streamlines, isotherms and liquid fraction is analyzed. The results indicate that natural convection of liquid phase change material (PCM) plays a significant role in the melting heat transfer of PCM. It is found that the rate of the melting increases with the increase in the values of the Rayleigh number.

Enhancement in properties of thermal storage materials improves their performance and contributes... more Enhancement in properties of thermal storage materials improves their performance and contributes to reducing the greenhouse gas emissions. The enhancement can be made in a passive way, which is cost-effective and hardly requires management. For decades, phase change materials (PCMs) have been used in many applications for thermal storage, thermal control and thermal insulation purposes. PCM can store a huge amount of energy with low or no temperature swing. However, the major drawback of PCM is the low thermal conductivity. Techniques of different scales (macroscopic, microscopic and nanoscopic) have been adopted in thermal engineering to enhance the thermal conductivity of PCM. This paper presents a comprehensive review of the literature dealing with micro/nano enhancement techniques of PCMs. Enhancement effects as well as limitations of each technique are discussed in detail. Moreover, direction for future research and possible challenges are pointed out along with conclusions drawn from the studies.

This paper numerically investigates heat transfer and phase-change improvement by means of longitudinal fins in a double pipe thermal energy storage unit. The main aim of this study is to investigate the effect of fin orientation on the performance of the thermal storage unit. Six configurations of different fin numbers (2, 4, and 8 fins) and orientations (π/2, π/4, and π/8) are tested. For simulations, a two-dimensional mathematical model incorporating the enthalpy-porosity method and finite volume techniques are established and solved by ansys-fluent.
