The removal of Nickel (Ni2+) and Zinc (Zn2+) from their aqueous solution mixtures by adsorption o... more The removal of Nickel (Ni2+) and Zinc (Zn2+) from their aqueous solution mixtures by adsorption onto carbon soot was investigated and compared with their adsorption on powdered activated carbon. Experiments were carried out at a constant initial concentration of each heavy metal ion, constant pH and constant adsorbent dose. Results from kinetic models (Lagergren equation and Weber Morris plot) showed that increasing of Ni2+ and Zn2+adsorption with increasing temperature. Activation energy measurements (Arrhenius equation) revealed a physical adsorption. The enthalpy of adsorption process was measured through Van’t Hoff equation revealing that endothermic adsorption process. The adsorption of Ni2+ was higher than that for Zn2+ which can be explained through higher value of ΔH in case of Zinc. Results suggested that carbon soot is a promising adsorbent for adsorption of metal ions from aqueous solution mixture at high temperature.

Chemical structure of the hitherto prepared dyestuffs were confirmed on the basis of correct elemental analysis as well as spectral data. The degree of exhaustion of the hitherto synthesized 3-[2-(oxoimidazo-5-yl) carboxamido] tartrazine dye analogues was determined and found to be in the range of 92.6–97.8%. The latter high ratios might be ascribed to the presence of the cyclic amide function in structure of these dyestuffs.
