ABSTRACT SiCTi ceramics were prepared by a polymer-derived-ceramic route, with allylhydridopolyca... more ABSTRACT SiCTi ceramics were prepared by a polymer-derived-ceramic route, with allylhydridopolycarbosilane (AHPCS) and bis(cyclopentadienyl) titanium dichloride (Cp2TiCl2) as starting materials. The cross-linking and ceramization of the AHPCS/Cp2TiCl2 hybrid precursors were characterized by means of FT IR, NMR, TGA and EDS. The results indicate that the cross-linking of hybrid precursors was significantly catalyzed by using Cp2TiCl2 as a catalyst, which might be responsible for a high ceramic yield of 80.8% at 1200 °C. The polymer-to-ceramic conversion was completed at 900 °C to give an amorphous ceramic. The chemical composition of the final ceramics could be tailored by the weight ratio of Cp2TiCl2 to AHPCS in feed. The microstructure and dielectric properties of final SiCTi ceramics were investigated by means of XRD, Raman spectroscopy and vector network analyzer. The results indicate that the 1600 °C SiCTi ceramics are composed of amorphous SiCTi, SiC crystal, TiC crystal and graphite. The dielectric loss of SiCTi is up to 0.34, which is 6 times higher than that of SiC (0.058), indicating that the SiCTi ceramics are promising wave-absorbing materials.

Low density polyethylene (LDPE) nanocomposites reinforced with natural halloysite nanotubes (HNTs... more Low density polyethylene (LDPE) nanocomposites reinforced with natural halloysite nanotubes (HNTs) were synthesized and evaluated as a prospective material for biomedical applications via in vitro biostability studies in this work. A twin-screw extruder machine was used to fabricate the examined LDPE and LDPE/HNTs nanocomposites (NCs), followed by in vitro treatment of the prepared NCs via immersion in oxidizing and hydrolytic chemicals for four weeks at 37°C. The materials’ in vitro mechanical characteristics were evaluated under these harsh conditions. The analysis showed that the LDPE with 3 wt% HNTs exhibited the best nanofiller dispersion characteristics. This NC also presented smoother surface degradation characteristics compared to the plain LDPE and other LDPE NCs. Furthermore, as compared to plain LDPE, the LDPE NCs showed enhanced mechanical capabilities, and these qualities were less impacted by the in vitro conditions. Abstract This work presents a study of microwave absorption properties of PAni/Fe3O4/PVA nanofibe... more Abstract This work presents a study of microwave absorption properties of PAni/Fe3O4/PVA nanofiber composites with different ratio of Fe3O4 nanoparticles. The morphology of the composites nanofibers study by Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopes (FESEM) and Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM) showed that the low content of Fe3O4 nanoparticles presence in the composites nanofibers indicates very much uniform surface, in the composites nanofiber without many bends, but some bends develop at higher content of Fe3O4 nanoparticles as indicated in the TEM image. Image-J software was used to further investigate the diameter of the composites nanofiber and found to be in the range of 152 to 195 nm. The nanofiber composites show excellent electric and magnetic properties and therefore vary with the addition of Fe3O4 nanoparticles in the composites nanofiber. In addition the PAni/Fe3O4/PVA composites nanofibers were further characterized by X-ray diffraction spectra (XRD) and Four Transformation infrared spectra (FTIR). The XRD pattern shows the presence of PAni nanotubes containing Fe3O4 nanoparticles by indicating peaks at 23.4⁰ and 35.43⁰ which was further supported by FTIR analysis. Microwave vector network analyzers (MVNA) were used to estimate the microwave absorption properties of the composites nanofibers. The absorption parameters was found to be −6.4 dB at 12.9 GHz within the range of X-band microwave absorption frequency, this reflection loss is attributed to the multiple absorption mechanisms as a result of the improved of impedance matching between dielectric and magnetic loss of the absorbent materials demonstrating that these materials can be used as protective material for electromagnetic radiation.

The goal of study was to explore the influence of organo-modified/ unmodified sodium montmorillonite clays, on the behaviours of waste polyolefins inclusive low density polyethylene (LDPE) and high density polyethylene (HDPE). 1-5 wt % of unmodified (MMT) and Organo-modified clay (OMMT) were added to the polyolefins, to prepare polyolefin-clay nanocomposites by melt intercalation method. The content and complexation ability of monomer Schiff base (N,N'-BSEDA) for cobalt(II) ions in prepared crosslinked polymer beads have shown dependence on the amount of DVB used in reaction mixture. The amount of monomer Schiff base (N,N'-BSEDA) in crosslinked beads showed a substantial decreasing trend at high concentration of DVB in the reaction mixture (> 1.5 mol dm-3), hence the efficiency of complexation (EC%) and cobalt(II) ion loading (EL%) of polymer beads showed a decreasing trend.
