In the present energy scenario, there is an increase in blends of diesel oil and biodiesel resear... more In the present energy scenario, there is an increase in blends of diesel oil and biodiesel research as alternative fuels for internal combustion engines. In Brazil, the soy bean and the palm oil biodiesels are been produced for this purpose. When those fuel blends are used as a substitute for diesel oil, it's highly essential to understand the parameters that affect the operational phases of the engine and results in performance modification and emissions. The biodiesel properties depend on the type of the vegetable oil used in the production process. Experimental analyses of the engine with various fuel blends require much effort, time and consequently great amount of money. Hence, a thermodynamic model of the engine was developed to analyze the performance characteristics of the engine fueled with those different blends. The present work presents a thermodynamic simulation (zero¬dimensional) of a single cylinder Diesel Engine, working with different blends of diesel and biodiesel. The engine simulator is validated in a test bench using a single cylinder engine. Following thus, an explanation of the problem and the aims are exposed. The whole thermodynamic formulation model is defined for the cylinder compression, combustion and expansion processes, meaning that intake and exhaust valves are closed.

The accomplishment of this strategy requires the large-scale deployment of alternative maritime fuels, whose diversity and technical characteristics impose transition challenges. While several studies address the production of these fuels, a notable gap lies in the analysis of the required adaptations in vessels and ports for their usage. This study aims to fill this gap with a comprehensive review of material compatibility, storage in ports/vessels, and bunkering technology. First, we analyze key aspects of port/vessel adaptation: physical and chemical properties; energy conversion for propulsion; fuel feeding and storage; and bunkering procedures. This paper assesses the effect of the crowd size on home team advantage, using a natural experime... more This paper assesses the effect of the crowd size on home team advantage, using a natural experiment occurred in Brazilian football. In 2015, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) quasi-randomly assigned games to be played under an alternative schedule on Sundays at 11 a.m. This measure significantly increased attendance in assigned games. Using this alternative schedule as an instrumental variable, we show that the exogenous increase in attendance did not increase home team advantage.
