Abstract
Intraregionale Kooperationsbeziehungen zwischen privaten Unternehmen spielen eine bedeutende Rolle für die wirtschaftliche Entwicklung einer Region. Das Ausmaß der intraregionalen Kooperationsbeziehungen kann auch als Indikator für die wirtschaftliche Integration einer Region oder von Teilräumen innerhalb einer Region dienen. Eine wichtige Form der Kooperation zwischen Unternehmen stellen die "Formellen Unternehmensnetzwerke" (FUN) dar. Dies sind formelle, vereinsartige Zusammenschlüsse von Firmen aus jeweils einer Branche, mit denen bestimmte gemeinsame Anliegen und Zielsetzungen der beteiligten Unternehmen erreicht werden sollen. Auf der Grundlage einer Erhebung sämtlicher FUN (und ihrer Mitglieder) mit Sitz in Sachsen, Sachsen-Anhalt und Thüringen leistet der Artikel einen Beitrag zur Beantwortung der Frage, welche räumlichen Muster der Kooperation und funktionsräumlichen Verflechtungen sich in Mitteldeutschland abzeichnen. Es wird gezeigt, dass der Faktor Distanz für die Ausrichtung von FUN zwar eine wichtige Rolle spielt, dies aber nicht immer und überall gilt. Die Landesgrenzen spielen eine wesentliche Rolle für die Reichweite der FUN, was vermutlich auch auf die politische Förderung von FUN zurückgeführt werden kann. Die sächsischen Großstädte bilden innerhalb Mitteldeutschlands eine relativ geschlossene, deutlich vernetzte Gruppe. Für Magdeburg zeigt sich innerhalb Mitteldeutschlands eine eher isolierte Position, während Dresden eine "Stadt der Netzwerke" mit Verbindungen zu allen anderen mitteldeutschen Städten ist. Diese Ergebnisse können für Überlegungen zur zukünftigen Abgrenzung der "Metropolregion Mitteldeutschland" sowie für Maßnahmen zur Förderung der Integration innerhalb der Metropolregion von Bedeutung sein.
