Abstract The current study examines how Israeli teachers’ beliefs and ideologies are expressed in... more Abstract The current study examines how Israeli teachers’ beliefs and ideologies are expressed in their teaching of Biblical miracles. The article explores how Israeli teachers broach the topic of Biblical miracles, and how their beliefs and ideologies help them navigate a path from the national curriculum to the classroom. The article focuses on three key areas: Initially, I discuss the educational challenges that teachers in Israeli schools confront in teaching miracles. This is followed by a mapping of educational approaches to presenting miracles. The final section analyzes conversations with three teachers about how they present miracles in their classrooms.

components of spirituality in young childr... more This article will open with a brief review of various
components of spirituality in young children's
education, with a specific focus on Jewish education.
This will be followed by a discussion about the critical
role that various cultural and religious rituals play in
the spiritual lives of young children. In seeking ways to
introduce these ideas and concepts into the world of
practice, I will analyze the described Havdalah ritual
and then proceed to reflect on how celebrating this
ritual interacts with foundational principles of the
world renowned Reggio Emilia approach. This section
will also include several practical ways to introduce
these principles into early childhood settings.
Throughout the article, we will explore a range of
possibilities for parallel educational experiences in
other religious and cultural settings

Abstract Bibliotherapy is an educational approach that attempts to engage learners in meaningful ... more Abstract Bibliotherapy is an educational approach that attempts to engage learners in meaningful discussions about relevant, compelling, and complex issues that they confront in their lives. Bibliotherapy begins with reading and reflecting on stories that can draw participants into a process of reflection, in ways that are user friendly and non-threatening. This study examines the unique educational features of bibliotherapy, and then proposes a model for implementing this approach in teaching Jewish texts. In the study's final section, we describe a teaching unit that demonstrates how to introduce bibliotherapy into the teaching about death and mourning in Jewish schools.

Several months before Professor Michael Rosenak passed away, we were thrilled to celebrate togeth... more Several months before Professor Michael Rosenak passed away, we were thrilled to celebrate together with him the publication of his final book, Covenant and Community. This book is a fascinating venture into the world of theology and its role in modern life. In certain ways this book takes a different turn from many of Professor Rosenak’s previous publications in that he states up front that he has no intention of assuming the role of the academic; rather, he deals with questions and challenges that concern him as an educator. At the same time, Covenant and Community shares many of the outstanding characteristics that fill the pages of his other publications. As Mike states repeatedly, he has a deep belief and commitment in the power of stories to shape and model educational discourse. In that sense it is most fitting and appropriate that his last book concludes with a moving and personal story that is replete with educational meaning:
