Ginger shots are a concentrated juice using fresh ginger root. This Ginger Shot recipe has a sweet spicy kick of immune boosting nutrients!
Ginger shots are power-packed. You only need a small amount (1-2 ounce shot) to get incredible benefits which aid with reducing inflammation, boosts immunity, detoxification that promotes kidney and liver health, and digestive health. To drink, use a shot glass or small glass or cup.
I make a batch of ginger shots every week. I place it in air tight bottles in my refrigerator. While drinking it fresh is always the best, let’s face it, we all often short on time. I have a college student who takes ginger shots almost daily to help stabilize and boost the immune system. When she comes home on the weekends, I make a fresh batch for her to take back with her. While the shelf life is not as long as store bought (1 week), it is by far more healthy, tasty and cheaper! You can make your own ginger shots for a fraction of the price of store-bought ginger shots.
These healthy shots are particularly beneficial during cold and flu season to help improve immune health.
Use Organic
Using organic vegetables when juicing can offer several benefits compared to non-organic options: reduced pesticide exposure, higher nutrient content, non-GMO, and many report organic fruit and vegetables taste better.
It’s important to note that while organic vegetables offer these potential benefits, they may also be more expensive than conventionally grown vegetables. Whether you choose organic or conventional vegetables for juicing depends on your personal preferences, budget, and concerns about pesticide exposure and environmental impact. Washing and thoroughly rinsing conventionally grown vegetables can also help reduce pesticide residues, making them a viable option for juicing if organic produce is not readily available or affordable.
Ingredients for Homemade Ginger Shots
- Ginger – 3-4 inches, washed or peeled
- Green apples, 2 – sliced and cored (you can also juice the core!)
- Pineapple – about 2 cups including the core
- Lemon – 1
How to Juice Homemade Ginger Shots
You will need a juicer or a high-powered blender. I personally use this juicer – Omega
Juicing is really very simple. Wash the fruit or vegetable you juicing, cut up to fit in the juicer and juice away!
- Begin by prepping the ingredients: peel the pineapple, then cut the flesh of the pineapple into strips that will fit the juicer shoot, including the core.
- Wash the apple and cut into slices keeping the skin. The skin has wonderful nutrients.
- You can either keep the skin on the ginger or remove it. I tend to remove most of the skin, particularly in the corners of the knobs as dirt tends to stick in there.
- Run the prepped pineapple, apple and ginger through the juice machine.
- Wash the lemon, and then either use a hand press lemon squeezer or run the lemon through your juicer. Note – you absolutely can juice the whole lemon with the peel, however, juicing the peel will over-power the flavor and will have a strong lemon flavor. If this is your preference then go for it! Otherwise, I recommend using a lemon squeezer or squeeze with your hands.
- If the juice has a bit more pulp than desired, you can use a fine mesh strainer to remove any additional pulp that gets through.
