Lately, I have been inspired by the beauty within plants. Their natural colours and textures have drawn me to paint a series of botanicals. Connecting with nature has always been important to me, and I have tried to portray that connection through this painting. I want the viewer to feel the emotions felt when I spend time in nature; the breathing of fresh air and sense of escapism from every day duties. I love using oil paints because they enable me to capture the rich vibrancy of the colours of plants and flowers. The strilitsia is a flower that appears repeatedly within my work because it is a flower commonly seen in Zimbabwe, Africa; my home town. It is also a shared favourite between my mother and I, so reminds me of her when I am far from home.
