The Island of Maui

Maui, also referred to as the Valley Isle, is the second largest island in Hawaii.  HALEAKALA NATIONAL PARK

The Haleakala National Park is the home of the dormant volcano Haleakala, the highest peak on Maui with an elevation of 10,023 feet. This place is famous for its beautiful sunsets, majestic landscapes, and rich flora and fauna.

The Summit Area can be reached via the Haleakala Highway which will take you to the highest point in the park. Surrounding landscapes can be described as volcanic and rocky, which will make you feel that you’re walking on the surface of the moon.

To the east is the Kipahulu Area, which can be accessed via Highway 360 or more popularly known as the Road to Hana (Hana Highway). In this region, you can see beaches, waterfalls, and lush forests.

HANA HIGHWAY (ROAD TO HANA)

The Road to Hana, also known as Hana Highway, has a total length of 64.4 miles (103.6 kilometers). It runs along Maui’s east coast, curving around mountains and passing by waterfalls and beaches.

With 620 curves and 59 bridges (46 of which are one-lane wide), this highway is the most famous stretch of road in Hawaii. Along the way, you can see rainforests and beautiful white, black and red sand beaches. Your journey thru Hana Highway will surely be a memorable one.

LAHAINA

To complete your Maui vacation, you might want to visit the bustling town of Lahaina. It is the main harbor in West Maui, where the majority of fishing, snorkeling, and whale-watching tours depart.

The restaurants along Front Street offer a wide variety of food and entertainment, which makes it the center of West Maui’s nightlife. This street was chosen as one of the “Top 10 Greatest Streets” by the American Planning Association.

You can also find lots of shops in Lahaina that sell souvenirs, handicrafts, gift items, and jewelry. If you like art, you can view and purchase works of local artists in the art galleries located on Front Street.

 KAANAPALI BEACH AND BLACK ROCK

With its clear waters, long stretch of fine sand and beachfront hotels, Kaanapali is easily one of the most beautiful beaches in Maui. Windsurfing, jet skiing, and parasailing – you can do all these on this fascinating beach. It can be the perfect destination for your Hawaii vacation.

Located on the west of Kaanapali Beach, Black Rock is a famous tourist spot ideal for swimming, snorkeling, or scuba diving. Check out the coral reefs, different species of tropical fish, and the sea turtles of Hawaii. Nice!

MAKENA BEACH (BIG BEACH)

Makena Beach, more popularly known as the Big Beach, is one of the well-known tourist spots in Maui. The beautiful orange-white sand and clear waters are perfect for sunbathing, swimming, and snorkeling.

LITTLE BEACH

For a different kind of beach experience, you can check out Little Beach. This spot is a watering hole for people who want to have fun and entertainment. Usually, on Sundays, crowds gather for some merrymaking, like dancing around a bonfire. It is one of the only few nudist beaches in the world where you can see some people skinny dipping.

KAMAOLE BEACH

Kamaole Beach is divided into three areas, Kamaole I, II and III. From here, you can get nice views of Kahoolawe, Molokini, and Lanai. Kamaole I is the largest and most beautiful of the three beaches, with a good swimming environment and fine white sand.

The second beach has nice waves and is ideal for body surfing. Kamaole III is popular among the locals as a picnic area because of its lush greens. All of these three beaches have complete facilities like parking, showers, and restrooms.

MALUAKA BEACH

Located in front of the Makena Beach and Golf Resort, this gorgeous beach is a good spot for swimming or snorkeling. The area surrounding this beach is commonly referred to as Turtle Town Maui. You can find picnic areas, showers, and restrooms here.

Fun Things to Do in Maui

Whale Watching

Prepare for a close encounter with the gentle giants of the sea – the 40-ton Humpback Whales. The best times to see these magnificent creatures are from December to April when they migrate from their feeding grounds in Alaska.

Watch their incredible acrobatics, such as tail slapping, blowing, and breaching. Each year, Humpback Whales come to Hawaii to mate, give birth, and nurse their offspring. Bring a camera so you can capture this rare encounter.

Another popular trail is the Pipiwai Trail, which is located above the Oheo Gulch (Seven Sacred Pools). The hike can take anywhere from three to five hours; there are several waterfalls along the route, the last of which is the Waimoku Falls – a nice 400-foot waterfall.
