Fortune's Toil
A submission by googlypoo for GDKO2025 round 2.
To play, navigate the world with WASD or arrow keys. For combat, use the mouse.
The focus for this round was narrative. This game tells the first chapter of a dead man who's mysteriously risen from the dead by a goddess to serve her bidding. As time goes on, he grows skeptical of her good intentions.
This round also contained two other restrictions: use of a projectile and involvement of an animal. Building on the game I made for round 1 (Wayward Bones), I thought it might be fun if you could throw your dice at the enemy to inflict damage like a projectile. As for the animal, she appears quite heavily in the narrative as the avatar of the main character's patron and as well in combat sequences as a method to re-roll dice.
