Mode Bm!

• introducing experimental mode Bm, a more compact version of the mode B config.
  • This mode is slower under ideal conditions (~70% of mode B), but it should be more reliable on a broader range of devices.
  • The new mode has been added to the auto-detect logic, so select it on the encoder side (ex: at https://cimbar.org, or via the latest libcimbar release ) and give it a try.

build notes:

• opencv4.8 is now the default opencv.

addendum:

• I tagged the wrong commit for this release initially. This is the right one 🙃

filename support!

• filenames are are now transmitted with the file (may require you to refresh/update your browser cache for cimbar.org)
• if the sender app does not supply a filename, for example if it's not been updated, the behavior should be the same as in previous versions (dummy filename with compressed filesize)

Bugfixes:

• fixed issue with color decoding on smaller files
• some code efficiency (performance/power usage) improvements

build notes:

• cv4.4 release is built with the same compiler/libraries as the old cfc_arm64-v8a_*.apk from previous releases. It's similar to the fdroid build. This particular cv4.4 release is versioned v0.6.2c, since a build tweak was made afterwards (v0.6.2d) for the 4.8 build.
• cv4.8 uses a slightly more up to date opencv, and is the same apk that's in the play store.
  • update: fdroid will now be building against 4.8 as well, I think
• no arm32 build yet (I don't have a test device for arm32 so it's very awkward...)

introducing mode autodetection!

• by default, the app will look for mode B and mode 4C, with the familiar toggle icon in the bottom showing B/4C.
• when we successfully decode one or the other, we will switch into operating only in that mode.
• to switch autodetection back on (for example to switch modes), hit the toggle again.

• This is not as well tested, but feel free to give it a try if you have issues with installing/running the standard apk or fdroid/play store versions.

edit (8/26): added a "v0.6.1g" version to satisfy google play android SDK version requirements. No code changes from v0.6.1, but it is built against opencv 4.8 (like the dual 64/32 build).

Format/design notes:

• New configuration mode B has split symbol and color decodes. This means that even if the colors are completely wrong (or the image is black+white!), we can still make progress.
• the new format also allows better color correction => better performance under a larger variety of conditions
  • there are some narrow circumstances where the old mode 4C might still be better
• removal of 8-color support (for now?)

Graphical app updates:

• instead of "4/8", the toggle at the bottom right corner of the app is now "4C/B". An 8 kind of looks like a B, but I went above and beyond the call of duty to change it.
• adjusted the "extract success but failed full decode" color introduced in 0.5.15. It is now yellow. Very exciting.

Bugfix:

• fixed a race condition in how the color correction matrix was being updated

Dependency upgrades (zstd, wirehair, ...) and a fix to a decoder regression introduced in 0.5.13 🙃 . Decodes should now be slightly less sensitive to lighting conditions, i.e. better and more consistent than they were.

This will be, hopefully, the last patch release of 0.5.x.

Maintenance release. Fixed a crash on some(?) Android 12/13 devices. See #14, #15.

Fixed an issue with cimbar extraction logic (the issue being it was wrong, and only worked by accident).

• fixed a bug in libcimbar where finished transfers wouldn't get cleaned up properly -- in CFC, this would manifest as successive transfers sometimes failing to start. The workaround was to close and reopen the app.
