Otherwise I think I should be able to bundle it as an ESM and provide both builds

I think uncommenting this line before the build should do the trick. Now I need to remember why I commented it 🤔

If you could share a repo where I can experience the error then I will give it a shot asap

I am not able the find the webpack.config.js file inside the node-modules/chord-mark/ folder.

I am encountering a similar error "self is not defined" when importing chord-mark via Typescript. Did uncommenting that line work for you @no-chris ?
