In experimental studies, cold work tool steels (AISI D2, 20 HRC and AISI D3, 28 HRC) were drilling by HSS cutting tools with four different lengths in two different diameters (O 8 mm and O 10 mm). Three different cutting speeds (5 m/min, 10 m/min, 15 m/min) and three different feed rates values (0.04 mm/rev, 0.05 mm/rev, 0.06 mm/rev) were used in experiments. According to outcomes of the experiment, it was detected that burr height decreases depending on feed rates increase and burr height increases

Deneylerde iki farklı kesici takım kullanılmıştır. Her iki kesici takım da TNMG profiline sahiptir. Takımlardan biri 160408 boyutlarında GM talaş kırıcı formuna sahip ve CVD yöntemiyle Al 2 O 3 ve TİCN malzemesiyle kaplanmış NC3020 (P20) kalitesinde, diğeri ise; 220408 boyutlarında HM talaş kırıcı formuna sahip ve CVD yöntemiyle Al 2 O 3, TİC ve TİCN malzemeleriyle kaplanmış NC3030 (P30) kalitesindedir. Kuru kesme şartlarında yapılan deneylerde, kullanılan kesme parametreleri; yüzey pürüzlülüğü deneylerinde beş farklı kesme hızı (150-200-250-300-350 m/dak), üç farklı ilerleme miktarı (0,15-0,25-0,35 mm/dev) ve 2 mm sabit kesme derinliği kullanılmıştır. Although advances have been made in manufacturing technology, a number of problems still exist in... more Although advances have been made in manufacturing technology, a number of problems still exist in the drilling process due to the chip formation which occurs in a closed area. This situation results in unpredictable force, torque and temperature generation. This study investigated the machining parameters in the drilling process using a finite element method (FEM). In the numerical analysis, thrust force, torque and temperature were calculated by three-dimensional simulation. Drilling processes were carried out with twist drill bits at three different cutting speeds and three different feed rates. The numerical analysis results were verified by experimental studies. The results show that FEM is a good candidate for obtaining cutting forces and temperature generation in drilling process.

Design/methodology/approach CFRP composite material had been fabricated having fiber orientations frequently used in the aerospace industry (0°/45°/90°/−45°). Three different stand-off distances (1, 2 and 3 mm), three different water pressures (1,800, 2,800 and 3,800 bar) and three different hole diameters (4, 8 and 12 mm) were selected as processing parameters. The average surface roughness values were obtained, and delamination damage was then analyzed using Taguchi optimization. A series of experiments was carried out using silicon-nitrite-based (Si, Al, O, N) and whisker-reinforced ceramic tools (Al 2 O 3 +SiC w ) that have two different geometries (square and circular) and three different ISO qualities. For the ceramic tools, a high level of aluminum and germanium caused built-up edge (BUE) formation, while notch wear is considered as a cause of high copper and oxygen levels in whisker-reinforced ceramic tools. Four different tools with two qualifies showed the best performance at a cutting speed of 200 m/min. The fact that the whisker-reinforced square-type ceramic tools are subjected to plastic deformation is attributed to the high oxygen level in the cutting tool's structure.

The machining tests were carried out through a milling method with different machining parameters. Analogue acoustic signals obtained via the microphone were converted and digitized. During idle operation and cutting operation, the obtained spindle sound recordings were subjected to Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) and converted from the time domain to the frequency domain, and the statistical effects of cutting parameters were investigated by use of analysis of variance. Cutting speed was found to be the only influential factor for the acoustic frequency in idle time. In the starting of machining, the feed rate, cutting speed, and depth of cut were seen to affect the acoustic frequency, while the cutting speed, insert material, insert radius, depth of cut, and feed rate were seen to be effective in the later stages of machi...

Bending response of corrugated core metallic sandwich panels was studied experimentally under thr... more Bending response of corrugated core metallic sandwich panels was studied experimentally under three-point bending loading. Two different core configurations were used: the corrugated monolithic core and the corrugated sliced core. The trapezoidal corrugated cores were manufactured from aluminum sheets via a sheet metal bending mould. After the sandwich panel samples were prepared, they were subjected to three-point bending tests. The load and displacement responses of the sandwich panels having different core configurations were obtained from the experimental testing. The influence of the core configuration on the three-point bending response and failure modes was then investigated. The experimental results revealed that the corrugated sliced core configuration exhibited an improved bending performance compared to the corrugated monolithic core configuration.

Plowshares produced from DIN EN 10 083 (30 MnB5) steel, widely used in plows, were coated with 20 mm hard chromium by electrolysis method, 20 mm electro-less nickel by chemical treatments, and 4 mm titaniumnitride (TiN) by physical vapor deposition to increase wearing resistance. The coated plowshare specimens, together with uncoated plowshare specimens, were mounted on test equipment to analyze their wearing characteristics in a sandy clay loam soil at a speed of 5.8 km h-1. The thickness of the coating and the mass loss of the plowshares were measured each 1.18 km up to 10.8 km for all the coated layers. Before and after tillage, the specimens were analyzed metallographically using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS).
