Claverton Cloches on Instagram: "Today looked a little different to my usual Tuesday! I went on a willow weaving course, hosted by Amanda who I first got to know after sending her cloches. The course was led by Jay Davey @jaydaveywillow a master willow weaver who has honed his craft over 30 years creating fabulous structures and sculptures from willow (which, interestingly, is grown in our own county, Somerset, close to the flood plains as the willow requires wet ground to thrive). Jay certainly makes it look easy (can confirm, there is a serious knack to making it look neat) and it was fascinating to watch him work so quickly and meticulously - a testament to his vast experience. What a fabulous day, and fascinating to learn more about this precious and traditional skill!" Suzie Grieve on Instagram: "A month or so and it shall be the season for gathering these lovely long leaves ! They grow so abundantly around here, often alongside willow and alder in boggy places. I know in some countries they’re considered invasive, but here they’re a beautiful part of the ecosystem and although they’re abundant it’s good to make sure we keep it that way :) Always wait if you can until the leaves are starting to brown at the tips, in the autumn, this is when the plant’s energy has already started to be drawn back down into the rhizome so it can survive through the winter. . . . #yellowflagiris #weaving #basketry #fibreart #naturalfibres #basketmaker #wildbasketry #slowcraft #iris" Weaving With Iris Leaves, Small Willow Weaving Projects, Simple Willow Weaving, Plant Fiber Weaving, Good To Make, Basket Weaving Foraging, Willow Weaving, Ecosystem, The Plant
