911 GT2 RS competition
wallenieswiftie 2m ago
It appears Porsche has been benchmarking Corvette more than Corvette has been benchmarking Porsche lately.
The 993 GT2 was a homologated special (borderline with GT1), so that one doesn't really count.
The 996 version was alright, but a bit less raw than its C5 equivalent (note: Z06 was a bit of an overlap with GT3/GT2 due to peak power and torque outputs between all three cars; it was actually much closer to a GT2 competitor than Ferrari 360CS ever was, but GT3 was much closer to BMW M3CSL than to Z06).
The 997 pre-RS version was just a reskinned 996, nothing special. Only marginally faster. Not as good as C6 Z06, let alone ZR1. Drove more like a Z51 with a Z06 engine swap. Even an E60 M5 managed to get just as quick of a lap time at the Laguna Seca as that generation GT2.
The first GT2 RS—introduced in the 997 facelift, was fundamentally even worse for what a track-focused supercar should be. The GT2s before it, admittedly, were intended to be more posh than the GT3 (and especially GT3 RS). However, the GT2 RS did not come with a Weissach or Manthey Racing package the way the Z06 and ZR1 came with their own Z07 and Centennial packages. It was really nothing more than a Turbo S with rear-wheel drive. It could hang with base ZR1s, though. But on a race track, never the Centennial version, much less a Viper ACR.
The second GT2 RS, however; yes, the 991 version, THAT'S when things started kicking! It was so good that Porsche chose to break its own Nring record with it. It was like a baby 918 Spyder that literally beat it. Even at higher speeds it has the 918 beat!
Looking at the near future, it looks as though the third GT2 RS (in the 992 generation) will generate AT LEAST 900 combined horsepower to the rear wheels, hybridized. 296 XX will have 900, Temerario already has 900, Revuelto has 1000, ZR1 has 1100—up to 1200 with the roofline-air intake option (underrated at 1064). Porsche tries to outpower Ferrari, so I'm betting even on 1000!

Possibly a 992 GT2 RS test at Nürburgring
wallenieswiftie 2y ago
Top speed of the new 992 GT2 RS: 316 km/h (197 mph) -- using AMG Black Series' 325 km/h (202 mph) and Corvette C8 Z06/Z06-7's 314/304 km/h (195/188 mph) as benchmarks. It won't be a competitor with the C8 ZR1 like the 991 GT2 RS was with the C7 ZR1. The 992 GT3 RS maxes out at 296 km/h (184 mph).

Porsche 911 991 GT2 RS acceleration stats! (+25% effort from 0 to 100 km/h / 62 mph)
0-60 MPH: 2.9 seconds
0-100 km/h: 3.0 seconds
0-100 MPH: 5.6 seconds
0-200 km/h: 8.6 seconds
0-150 MPH: 12.5 seconds
0-300 km/h: 21.0 seconds
0-200 MPH: 28.5 seconds
Lateral Acceleration: 1.31 G
Quarter (1/4) Mile: 10.3 seconds at 139 mph
Half (1/2) Mile: 15.9 seconds at 166 mph
Whole (1/1) Kilometer: 18.6 seconds at 179 mph
Whole (1/1) Mile: 25.7 seconds at 195 mph
Today is my last day estimating cars' performance.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1mc-JJgfFrlYYFGuv3ohleC_rh7k8G3yp73DMb6UpCD8/edit?usp=sharing
0-200 km/h estimated in the form of (200/(100x1.609344))^1x5.6 and (200/(150*1.609344))^1x12.5
0-300 km/h estimated in the form of (300/(150x1.609344))^1x12.5 and (300/(200*1.609344))^1x28.5
Half mile time estimated in the form of 1320x1.6 = 2112 ft / 139 mph = 15.2 + .8 = 16.0, but that's if you rounded up the high 15.9x. I chose to round it down to just "15.9", NHRA style. Why? Because 1320 / 139 = 9.5 or 9.4, +.8 = 10.3 or 10.2. 10.3/15.9 = more potential, and 10.2/16.0 = less potential.
Half mile trap speed estimated in the form of (15.9/12.5)^1x150 and (15.9/21.0)^1x(300/1.609344)
Kilometer time estimated in the form of 3.0+8.6+21.0/(3.0+8.6+21.0)*11; mile time pretty much the same way, but instead of 11, I multiplied by 22.
Kilometer trap speed estimated in the form of (18.6/12.5)^0.5x150 and (18.6/21.0)^0.5x(300/1.609344)
Mile trap speed estimated in the form of (25.7/21)^0.25x(300/1.609344) and (25.7/28.5)^0.25x200

My estimated lap times
Motor Trend Figure-8: 21.6 sec @ 1.06 G
Nürburgring Nordschleife: 6:34
Top Gear Test Track (Power Lap): 1:08
How I estimated the lap times
Figure-8: (((((((900/(30/21)x(1565x2.20462262))/0.125)/793))/0.5)/1.33)x1.07x0.65)/1.06

For standard Weissach Pack, multiply by 1 instead of 0.975; for more "comfortable" 2RS models, multiply in the 1.025 to 1.05 range.

@admin well apparently Manthey Racing now has Porsche's approval for OEM status so the latest GT2RS MR lap time at the Nurb of 6:38.84(20.6km) or 6:43.3(20.8km) is recognised as the new record. What do you think?
