The FA Cup fourth round meeting between West Brom and Wolves had to be halted for over 30 minutes after scenes of violent crowd trouble.
The tie – which saw the two local rivals meet in front of a crowd for the first time since 2012 – saw the Premier League side claim a 2-0 victory.
Play was suspended, however, just after Wolves forward Matheus Cunha put his side two goals ahead in the 78th minute.
The game was then held up for around 36 minutes as fighting appeared to break out to a corner of the Hawthorns supposedly holding home fans.
Police and officials arrived quickly to break up as hostilities as a number of supporters then spilled out onto the pitch.
The section of the ground contained a number of children, with West Brom defender Kyle Bartley going into the stands to take out his children amid the ugly scenes.
The fourth round meeting had been set for a 11:45am kick-off due to the historic pattern of crowd trouble between the Black Country rivals.
Referee Thomas Bramall eventually took the players from both teams back to the dressing rooms as police attempted to calm the matter.
There had earlier been pockets of trouble in other parts of the ground – with fares thrown in the away section after Wolves opened the scoring in the first half and objects were also thrown at Wolves’ Tommy Doyle as he prepared to take a corner.
Play eventually resumed after the long delay with over 12 minutes of the game remaining, with Wolves then playing out the 2-0 win in the delayed low-key finale.
