Selena Gomez hits back at plastic surgery claims: 'Leave me alone'

"Honestly I hate this."

Selena Gomez is putting an end to any plastic surgery speculation surrounding her once and for all.

The Emmy-nominated actress, 32, denied that she’d gone under the knife in the comment section of a 2023 TikTok posted by Marissa Barrionuevo on Monday. In the video, Barrionuevo, who is a plastic surgeon assistant, was asked to weigh in on whether or not she believed Gomez had undergone any cosmetic surgery.

“Honestly I hate this. I was on stripes because of flare up,” Gomez wrote, with many fans suggesting that she meant to write “steroids” instead of “stripes.” She continued, “I have Botox. That’s it. Leave me alone.”

Barrionuevo stated in the video that she had “no idea” if Gomez had received any cosmetic treatments over the years, citing the actress’ lupus diagnosis as a potential explanation for the “changes” that she has gone through. She also included a side-by-side comparison of a photo of Gomez taken a few years ago with an image of her from the 2023 Golden Globes.

"I think she's been through so much in her life, especially medically related, so I don't think it's fair to speculate whether or not she's gotten cosmetic things done,” she said. “At the end of the day, let's just leave her be."

Barrionuevo posted a TikTok personally apologizing to Gomez following her comment on the original post. “I really hope Selena Gomez does not hate me,” she confessed.

She continued, “I agree with you, I do think we should leave you alone and I said that in the video. I totally understand you still not appreciating it.... So I am sorry if that made you feel any sort of way.”

The TikToker noted that she adored Gomez and that it was never her intent to “tear people down” with her plastic surgery speculation video series, which she has since stopped posting online. She added, “That is never, ever, ever my intention when it comes to it.”

Gomez returned to the comments section to respond to Barrionuevo’s apology. “I love you. Not about you,” she wrote of her initial remarks. “I just get sad sometimes.”

To which Barrionuevo replied, “Me too sister, I love you! Hope one day we can hug and be friends.”
