Kati, OTR/L, CLC | Infant Toddler Development on Instagram: "Cold season may be coming to an end, but there’s always those summer colds that sneak in. It’s also the perfect time to practice to blow your nose! Save this post for future reference or start now.

Here’s how to teach your toddler to blow their nose. 👃
1. Get a toilet paper roll.
2. Place a pom in the end.
3. Show your toddler how to blow the Pom out of the roll.
4. Then have them try.
5. Place the roll on their nose away from their mouth.
6. Say Blow. And blow your nose yourself so they can see you demonstrate.
7. They love it when the Pom goes flying! Instant reinforcement and gratification!

Beware: Do not try this with an active runny nose! 😝

This may take a few turns to get, but once they get it with the toilet pap Toddler Development, Spring Allergies, Toddler Hacks, Toddler Behavior, Sick Baby, Grandparenting, Teaching Toddlers, Runny Nose, Speech Language Therapy

Tuck in their bottom arm (arm opposite to the direction baby is rolling). Make sure that you tuck it in front of their chest, or you can stretch it straight out in front of them (not depicted in video) 3. Entice baby with a toy or cooing from a friendly face. 4. Baby may initially need some extra help from you to finish their roll by gently moving their top leg over. 5. Let gravity help finish the roll :) ** please note baby in the video has already consolidated this skill and is 6 months old. Your baby may need more support! Physical Therapy For Infants on Instagram: "Gently rolling your baby from their back to tummy, instead of picking them up and placing them on their tummy, begins to prepare them for the feeling of rolling.

Rolling from back to tummy is a natural transition that your baby will eventually learn to do on their own. It usually begins to emerge around 4 months and is mastered by 6 months.

By rolling onto tummy before they can on their own, your baby begins relating the two positions (lying on back and lying on tummy) to one another through the transition of rolling.

I have noticed that incorporating this technique often helps babies tolerate tummy time better since it’s less abrupt than placing them directly onto their tummy. And it lays the groundwork for rolling in the months to come!
