@leonasceramics on Instagram: "This is my process for trimming wide slip cups. I begin by centering a self-made pre-bisqued chuck and firmly attaching it to the wheel or a bat. Its purpose is to securely hold the upside-down, leather-hard piece while I trim it. In my studio, I keep half a dozen bisque chucks like this, each with different shapes, suitable for many of the sizes and forms I most often create. Sometimes, I also throw them fresh and dry them slightly with the help of a blowtorch right before the trimming starts. I intentionally threw these wide cups with a thick bottom so I can cut it out now. The result is a smooth, flattened, and raised foot, much like the interior of the piece.
