would love to make the dining room moodier. paint the walls in a deeper gold/beige/ from the rug.i would remove the trim from the valances and reupholster the chairs is a color similar to one used on wall. I show a tablecloth as well as a sham (which comes as tablecloth which would make a wonderful table cloth for when you keep the table covered. I would not have red, green or yellow be the focus in this space. let the rug be a focal point.
