Luke Weiler of Positive Mental Trip has used the Sterling ST77 microphone in the studio(on all demos toured with 2008-2010) and on many songs on the 2017 PMT album, “the black and white album”. I prefer it to the sound of the Blue Baby Bottle if we are picking just one mic but I often blend them both together as I like the character of a few different mics on vocal tracks for some song. When tracking Chris Bonnano’s saxaphone on “the black and white album” in 2017 we used both mics at once on his saxaphone. It was also one of many mics used on Richard Goddeau’s 13 piece pearl master series drum set we mic’d for the almost 12 minute version of Circles that ended the 2017 album. Richard was an original member of PMT back in the day and had played Circles with us a lot so it was cool to reconnect with him musically and have him as a special guest on that track.

Luke Weiler of Positive Mental Trip has used DR Strings on his American Fender Stratocaster guitar on and off from 2006-2019. Almost all 2013-2014 PMT shows Luke was using DR strings. “I like DR Strings a lot... I’ve used DR, Ernie Ball, and D’addario strings on my electric guitars for the last 14 years playing live.” PMT Luke

Luke Weiler of Positive Mental Trip plays the larger EHX Metal Muff with Top Boost. When I saw Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth using this pedal I knew I could make some cool sounds with it. It was used on the 2017 Positive Mental Trip album “The Black and White Album” and also is on some of the demos for the 2019 “Love Never Dies” album. It’s a muff that can cut through a mix like a razor blade.

Luke Weiler of Positive Mental Trip has used the J Rockett Audio Design Archer Ikon live and in the studio from 2017-2019. It is tied for his favorite overdrive and works well stacked with luke’s 06’ Fulltone OCD. The Fulltone OCD was luke’s only overdrive pedal from 2006-2017 with Positive Mental Trip. However the Archer IKON was just so different. “I’ve always liked my lead sound with the OCD really thick and saturated to get it where I want it. When I plugged the Archer IKON in and heard my lead sound exactly the way I wanted it and it was still a good semi-Clean sound my mind was blown. I had never experienced the KLON-Esque mojo i had heard so much about. I had thought my Fulltone OCD was all I ever needed. The Archer IKON proved me wrong. -PMT Luke

Luke Weiler of Positive Mental Trip uses the DBX 286s rack unit in the studio with the Shure SM7B microphone. The Shure SM7B being a dynamic mic needs up to 60db of gain as it is not a condensor microphone. “I really think on a shoestring budget as far as mic preamps go this unit is great. Works very well with the Shure SM7 B.”

Luke Weiler of Positive Mental Trip has been using the Vox AC-15 C1 amplifier with a Celestion Greenback speaker for live performances since 2011. Notably, he utilized this amp during the recording sessions for the 2012 album "Change Your Mind" at Applehead Recording Studios, where it was featured on most electric guitar parts except for the third track, which used Marshall stacks. The Vox AC-15 C1 was also Weiler's exclusive amp for the "Change Your Mind" tour from 2012 to 2014 and remained his choice for live shows until 2019. Although it was used for only one song on the 2017 "The Black and White Album," its future role in the band's third album is uncertain due to evolving recording techniques involving direct inputs and preamps.

Luke Weiler of Positive Mental Trip has played a TC Electronic Viscous vibe Live at every show from 2017-2019. He has used it on many recordings in those 2 years some made it onto PMT’s “The Black and White album”(2017) and it was quick to be on guitar solos and rhythm guitar parts on some of the 1 st songs recorded for “Love Never Dies” in 2018. “I’ve been tracking guitar parts for the album for over a year. I’ll think I’ve got all the Viscous vibe on this album I need... and then I come across the “Count Funkula” toneprint and the producer hears it and hits record immediately.” PMT Luke

Luke Weiler of Positive Mental Trip was known for playing a Crate Blue Voodoo 120 H 120 watt tube amp head through a Marshall cabinet during the PMT band era 2006-2007. In that era the band practiced many many times a week and played close to 100 concerts in a little over 2 years. All concerts were in NY state as the band did not travel far to play music in that time period. It is not known whether the Crate Blue Voodoo amp had been used in the studio. However the “walking museums of side effects” demo which is a prospect to be on the 2019 “Love Never Dies” album has the old school 06-07’ Tone to my ears. Definitely sounds like the crate Blue voodoo 120H was used on guitar on that track. Luke has never played through any cabinets but Marshall stacks and 1/2 stacks live or in the studio.

Luke Weiler of Positive Mental Trip is a huge fan of the TECH 21 Fly Rig 5. “ For shows where I’m playing backing up other area musicians on guitar, they might want me to have a smaller rig on stage. The TECH 21 Fly rig sounds great with or without an amp. (He would rather the amp!) Luke has been seen tracking guitar for the new Positive Mental Trip album using the tech 21 fly rig for the less experimental guitar tracks. “My producer in Woodstock is a big fan of me going direct so when he sees me show up with a fly rig and a splitter instead of 3 pedalboards and amps ... he seems happier about the session. When recording an album with a producer on some songs it’s really important to me we are on the same page and mutually happy with the recording session experience.

Luke Weiler of Positive Mental Trip is a huge fan of Analog Man guitar pedals. He has a black and gold Astro Tone Fuzz pedal that he has used for some recording sessions for the 2019 Positive Mental Trip album. He has also used this pedal during recent Loud and Conscious People recording sessions along side the J Rockett Archer IKON stacked or into the 2 notes Le Clean tube preamp.

Luke Weiler has played a DOD Gonkulator Ring Modulator since early 2018. He has only used it live once and it didn’t quite fit the older repertoire live. He has used it on bass and guitar on some demos for the new album. Unsure if any will make it on the new album that have already been recorded. Luke was hoping to take a killer EBOW Solo with the GONK on the new album but the jury is out whether that will come to fruition in time for final mixing and mastering towards the end of the summer.

Luke Weiler of Positive Mental Trip is using many DREADBOX pedals on Bass as well as guitar tracks while tracking for the “Love Never Dies” album set to release at the end of August 2019. Luke has used the DREADBOX “ Omikron” extravagant waveshaper, “Epsilon” Versatile distortion,” Lamda 2”extensive Filter, “Kappa 2 “supreme controller/8 step sequencer, and TAFF 2 scientific tremolo while tracking bass and guitar parts in 2019. Tracks like “Sunshine Beams”, “The Golden Silence”, “Gaia Hypothesis”, “Stink Bug Zoo” and many other tracks on the album will have a really wet crazy bassline or guitar part using these extremely, synth-like, “outside the box” pedals blended with clean basslines and clean guitar tracks in the mixes.

Luke Weiler of Positive Mental Trip has used D’Addario EXL 115 guitar strings live with PMT. Ussually on his American Fender Stratocaster or Schecter C1 Elite. From 2006-2014 those were luke’s main 2 live/touring electric guitars and D’addario strings as well as DR and Ernie Ball Electric Guitar Strings were always around.

In a 2019 YouTube video by PMTluke titled "Compressor Shootout V1," Positive Mental Trip showcases the Line 6 ToneCore Constrictor Compressor in a studio setting. Known for its distinctive sound, this compressor is used alongside other unique Line 6 pedals like the Verbzilla and Echo Park. Despite its rarity in studio environments, it's highlighted for its cool tone and affordability, often available in mint condition for around $29.

Luke Weiler of Positive Mental Trip has played a Fulltone OCD live since 2006. It was his only overdrive live until he added a J Rockett Audio Designs Archer Ikon to his live rig. Luke plays the older version of the OCD as there are no arrows around the knobs. It is said to be a version 1.1 or 1.2.

Luke Weiler of Positive Mental Trip has been known to use the BOSS TE-2 Tera Echo live and in the studio. Ussually found between his BOSS DD3 and TC HOF v.1 at the end of his effects chain on stage. You can hear subtle use of the BOSS Tera Echo on almost every lead guitar solo of live footage of the band from 2016-2018. You can hear extreme use of this pedal and it’s freeze functionality at the beginning of “the black and white album” on its 1 st track “the road”. You can also hear the Tera Echo used in a very extreme way on the final track of the “black and white album”,(2017) titled “Circles”. “Circles” is a close to 12 minute prog Jam which ends with a very experimental psychadelic Delay self oscillation type ending. Luke still uses the BOSS Tera Echo live but has stopped using it in the studio. It is said he even used it on some drum sounds in 2017.

Luke Weiler of Positive Mental Trip has used the BOSS BF-3 Flanger on his live pedalboard during the 2015-2019 era of PMT. In 2018 he started to only use the BF-3 in momentary to bring it in a parts of the riffs and use it to accent certain parts of a song or guitar solo. He has been using the BF-3 like this when playing lead guitar with John Pinder and Crooked Toe as well. The BOSS BF-3 is one of the only Flanger pedals that has this function. It is a very useful Flanger for the momentary function alone but even if using the BF-3 in the more traditional sense the BF-3 is a great choice for live shows. Luke used the BF-3 on lots of recordings and demos in the 2017 PMT era. Most flanger sounds on the 2019 Positive Mental Trip album will be MOOG Flanger sounds but the BF-3 will be used to re-create the recorded sounds live. No MOOG modulation pedals have been seen on the Positive Mental Trip live pedalboards. The BOSS BF-3 is a constant.

Luke Weiler of Positive Mental Trip has never used his MA 100 H heads live w/ his Marshall stacks. They were used on track 3, “change Your Mind” off of the 2012 album “Change Your Mind” recorded at Applehead Recording near Woodstock, N.Y.. The MA 100H tube amp Head w/ one Marshall Cabinet was used to record Walt B and his Gibson Les Paul Standard on “the bronco rides at midnight” in 2017. “The Bronco Rides at midnight” was the only track on Positive Mental Trip’s 2017 album, “the black and white album” to feature Walt B on lead guitar and the Marshall 1/2 cab MA 100H setup. “I wanted us to hear that amp at least once on every Positive Mental Trip album and Walt B’s Gibson Les Paul just sounded awesome through it. I hope Walt B will come in with that Les Paul and play lead guitar through that amp on at least one song on every Positive Mental Trip album.” -Luke Weiler However it is unclear if Walt B, his Gibson Les Paul, and the Marshall MA 100H have been (or will be) used on the “Love Never Dies” album. Luke Weiler of Positive Mental Trip does play through the MA 100H and Marshall cabinets sometimes in the pedal demos he puts on youtube. They are pretty low key though only music gear fanatics or true PMT fans have ever seen any of Luke’s YouTube channel or pedal demo/pedal sounds chronicles.

Luke Weiler of Positive Mental Trip has used the disontinued (bucket brigade chip)deluxe electric Mistress Flanger since 2017. Due to size of the pedal Luke has not used it live yet with Positive Mental Trip but has used it on many studio recordings. Definitely one of the coolest flanger pedals around. Big size but big sounds and as it is with almost all EHX pedals unique functionality.

Luke Weiler of Positive Mental Trip has played a TC Electronic Helix Phaser Live and in the studio since 2017. Luke is known for sometimes having 2 phasers and a univibe pedal on his live board. Lots of thick swirls on funky rhythms and saturated heavy guitars is also common on Positive Mental Trip Albums.

Luke Weiler of Positive Mental Trip used the EV co9 vocal microphone live on and off (2010-2019) and surprisingly used it a lot blended with the blue baby bottle and Sterling ST 77 on the 2nd PMT studio album in 2017. “Yeah i took the cobalt dirty through the digitech RP 300 vocal processor on a lot of those songs. I blended the dirty Cobalt vocal tracks with clean condensor mic tracks and when I liked the results those tracks made the album.”

Luke Weiler of Positive Mental Trip does enjoy recording with some of the digital effects and amp models in the ZOOM B3. “When not going direct or into some analog MOOG pedals I really enjoy some of the sounds in this ZOOM B3. Like the R24 and the Q8 I also use, I feel like the ZOOM B3 gives you a tone of very use-able bass tones in this unit for the price. Very cool filters and such. I’ve used it more on demos and the new material then the 2017 album but it’s on “The Black and White Album” here and there. I went direct most of that album with the bass but when I used effects it was all the ZOOM B3 at that point in my bass guitar journey.” PMT Luke

His experiments with this expression pedal and some other expression pedals will never end in the studio and live.

Since 2006 Luke Weiler of Positive Mental Trip has only used Dunlop Tortex 0.60mm picks as his go to. There are times when he has used the Dunlop 44 P 73 and 88 nylon standard picks with the grip when only playing lead guitar or on a song for just the lead guitar parts. However when luke is playing live and when he has the choice he prefers the Tortex orange 0.60 mm as he enjoys playing rhythm with them and breaking less strings. He also loves how they are just thick enough pretty much perfect thickness to get energetic for 8 hours at a time playing rhythm and lead guitar and not break strings. When jumping up and down during shows he found he was breaking more strings with the grey grip 88 and 73 nylon picks. Still whatever he goes with for any specific reason it is always Dunlop. And 95 % of the tortex Standard 0.60mm.

Luke Weiler of Positive Mental Trip has played a Source Audio Orbital Modulator since early 2018. He really loves the Uni-vibe sound but also likes some of the digital chorus, flanger, and phaser sounds in the pedal as well. This pedal is a digital modulation Swiss Army knife and for a digital pedal that does a lot it does a lot very well. Seeing it on Jake Cininger of Umphreys Mcgee’s pedalboard and loving his Uni-vibe sounds and playing and tone overall made luke pull the trigger on this pedal used. Luke has never played it live yet but has used it on many recording sessions and has used it on what are believed to be “keeper guitar tracks” on the new studio album in the works . (“Love Never Dies” 2019)
